Mostly cloudy and cool this PM. Light snow will develop later tonight and it may switch over to a period of freezing drizzle. Watch for slick spots on the roads tomorrow (Friday). Snow showers with a dusting to an inch for Saturday. There was an unconfirmed report of 30″ of new snow near Shingleton in the U.P., with 6-8 foot drifts near Wetmore. Kalamazoo (WMU) has now topped 50″ for the season. Check out the snowman at Twin Lakes – half buried by snow!

2)Censorship/discrimination in recent times seems to center attention/focus on Christ/Christians—For example, a few years back a student found a peaceful pose/picture depicting Jesus hanging in the hall @ Bloomingdale High repugnant and ordered it removed(which it was)..a case of appeasing the desires of 1 and overlooking the desires of the other 500 to have it remain.Meanwhile artist(loosely)Maplethorpe can use my/our tax $$$ to affix a crucifix inside a urinal mocking Christ, call it “ART” display it in PUBLIC museum’s/galleries and stand on principle protection of ‘free’ artistic EXPRESSION whether it offends 100% pop. or not. So in one instance, ACLU is all over separation clause for innocuous pic….while defending tax $ and PUBLIC display for so-called ‘art’ defacing the honor of Jesus?! Christians just need to get MORE creative– like using artistic FREE EXPRESSION to defend right to display Nativity scenes, Ten Commandments,etc in public…Maplethorpe gets a pass to desecrate religious symbols/personae; so should Christians wishing to exalt said entities via spiritual expression.

The only reason “race” startles us is because it has NOTHING to do with weather. If you are feeling “under-represented”, it’s probably because the vast majority of people don’t come here with the express purpose of being a PITA.

On a side note, we just got home from snowmobiling, and the fields are so icy it seems/looks like we are snowmobiling over a frozen lake! I’ve never snowmobiled on such icy conditions, every dirt road is very icy as well. There was a lot of snow in the wooded state game area between Allegan and Fennville.
Do you have a studded track? I’ve heard it’s easy to slide out without studs? (I’m STILL being held captive by that asphalt parking lot – although the trails look pretty rough over here)
Nope, no studs. It is pretty easy to slide w/out studs, but right now it’s basically like driving over a lake when it’s glossy ice. And the trails were pretty thin in the fields by our house, but there was probably 8-12″ in the wooded areas. I wouldn’t even attempt to go east of my house, it would definitely be too thin and rough.
That’s what happens when it starts piling up in November & never melts or stops until April. Unlike here where it starts to pile up…. then melts…. then starts to pile up again…. then more melting…. then more snow…. then another thaw…. & so on & so on.
Actually they had very little snow through early January like we did, and have been getting bombed since mid January like we have. But they haven’t had a warmup, so it just keeps piling up. But I agree 100% with what you said.
When I was a kid (shortly after all the dinosaurs died) – it was MANDATORY in Cadillac, MI to have some sort of doodad (usually orange foam balls) on your radio antenna, to alert drivers that a car was waiting to pull into the road because the snowbanks obscured your view!

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like this blog has been hijacked by a bunch of junior high school kids. There used to be several knowledgeable people on this site but now it’s only Cort. Now it’s only people talking about about made up crap. The rdb and Jem models for example. Grow up. Knock off with the hype and have intelligent weather related conversations. Am arriving late into the discussion, but it appears that those of us in the SW MI/northern IN area will be “dodging” this storm (sort of)> Down here in NE IN they are forecasting 1-2″, GRR 1-3″ ?? and KS,IL,IA getting 8-18″??????? Not that I mind, but with all the talk about this “huge storm” on the Weather Channel”, one has to wonder….on the other hand, our friends at the Soo just got another 14″ over the past two days…. any comments or elucidation?

Dunno, Tom, but am wondering if it has gotten too ponderous for the steering winds (jetstream) to move it along very quickly. From what I can assume, the storm is NOT moving quickly, thereby dumping copious amounts of snow on KS,MO and NE so far.
It looks as if both SW MI and NE IN will be getting the wet side of the front, i.e., freezing rain and rain, with very little snow. That’s OK by me….. am not anxious to shovel again for a while……;-)
What DOES have to be shoveled will be like cement
