Winter Weather Advisory

March 15th, 2013 at 3:46 pm by under Bill's Blog, Weather

advisory  The  Winter Weather Advisory runs until 11 AM Saturday.  This is mainly for icy roads developing as the snow moves in and temperatures drop below freezing.  We’re looking for 1-3″ of snow overnight in the Advisory area with a few lingering flurries possible into the midday.  The roads should have  icy spots thru mid-morning and improve as the sun climbs higher in the sky (even if it’s cloudy…sunlight does get thru the clouds, otherwise it’d be pitch black in the daytime) and temperatures climb into the low-mid 30s.

Looks like we should get several inches of spring snow tonight….this who knows what for early next week…..but on thing that stands out now is that it should be below average temp wise and that may last into the first week of April lets hope its not beyond that as well….in other words no real warm up in the next two to three weeks or more!!!!its cloudy and 40° here in Walker now…

  3. Interesting the NWS mentions nothing for I96 and north on the early week system, must be nothing is expected lol

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

The NWS forecast discussion have been horrible lately and this one is no exception, other than the fact it is even worse. In fact it is 100% worthless!!

  4. Sam the Snow Dog says:

1 to 3 inches and they only put up and advisory?? These are warning conditions!

  5. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Has anyone heard that it is still WINTER and it is COLD outside and that we are entrenched in a COLD and SNOWY pattern! Who knew? Certainty is was not all of the warm weather nuts who have been trying to tell me for three weeks now that WINTER is over. Ya right – face reality and get used to it baby!!!

  6. Rocky (Rockford) says:

The GREAT NEWS just keeps rolling! Lets review the facts!
    1. We are in a WWA right now!
    2. More SNOW next week!
    3. The newly updated 6-14 day CPC outlook shows us with well below average temps and above average precip. Can you say more SNOW is on the way!
    4. Another great WINTER sports weekend is on tap! Skiing here I come!
    5. We may get a SNOWSTORM in April!
    6. fixxxer needs to go hibernate under a rock!
    7. ROCK n ROLL will never die!!!

    1. fixxxer says:

How many times did you change your underwear when you saw this blog entry?

  7. INDY says:

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

      +1000

  8. fixxxer says:

You got any good news bill? Or can I expect bad news right through June?

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

I’ve got some good news for you fixxxer. It may hit 60 degrees by June 1st and then expect below average temps for most of this summer!! Bring it on!

      1. big Daddy BC says:

The last month we had with below normal temps was in 1978.

        1. Bill Steffen says:

Utter nonsense! As laughable as saying the 2008 Detroit Lions were the best NFL team ever…or that the Pope is a Buddhist!

I don’t use “adjusted” data. We didn’t even have satellite data before 1979 – we weren’t even measuring temperature accurately over half the globe in 1978!

Ice has been growing at the S. Pole: http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.anomaly.antarctic.png Does that graph look like temperatures are “skyrocketing”??

Even “Handcuffs” Hansen says temperatures are flat:

The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade… – James Hansen et al.

24 of the 50 states still – after 75 years! – have their warmest temperatures from the 1930s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._state_temperature_extremes

BTW, did you see this: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/610day/610temp.new.gif

        2. big Daddy BC says:

          NOAA DISAGREES:

“January 2013 tied with 1995 as the ninth-warmest January since record keeping began in 1880. It also marked the 37th consecutive January and 335th consecutive month with a global temperature above the twentieth-century average.”

          http://www.climatewatch.noaa.gov/image/2013/jan2013-global-update

I don’t think we need infrared to read a thermometer. LOL

        3. Bill Steffen says:

O NO!! PANIC!! PANIC!! TIED FOR THE THE 9TH WARMEST JANUARY!! WHAT A CATASTROPHE!! 8 JANUARYS WERE WARMER THAN THIS JANUARY, EVEN WITH THE “adjusted” (read fudged) NUMBERS!! QUICK RAISE THE PAYROLL TAX ON THE LOWER AND MIDDLE CLASS AND LET’S WASTE MORE MONEY LIKE THIS:

        4. big Daddy BC says:

I’d say the ninth hottest in more than 100 years is pretty fricken hot. If it’s random, could you calculate the odds of landing in the top 9 again? LOL That wasn’t the point of the quote. The point was to refute your ridiculous claim that we haven’t had 336 consecutive months with above average temps. Once again, your dishonest misrepresentation is plainly apparent.

        5. Bill Steffen says:

First, I don’t believe “the “adjusted” manipulated temperature data. http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/data-tampering-at-ushcngiss/ If you look at raw data, there’s no catastrophic crisis. For anyone who’s interested in this topic, get the raw data and compare for yourself.

Second, global temperatures ARE NOT WARMING!! Everyone admits that now:

          http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

Here’s what James Hansen of NASA wrote: “The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade….” – James Hansen et al.

Dr. Judith Curry of the famous BEST group at Berkeley:

‘There is no scientific basis for saying that warming hasn’t stopped,’ she said. ‘To say that there is detracts from the credibility of the data, which is very unfortunate.’

Third, look at the scientists who WERE believers in catastrophic “global warming” who have by reason, logic and fact now said they believe that catastrophic “global warming” is not and will not happen:

        6. big Daddy BC says:

More links to places like Steve Goddard and the No Trick Zone. LOL What a professional you aren’t. NOAA just named the last twelve months the hottest year on record!

Or was it May 2011 to April 2012? http://www.motherjones.com/blue-marble/2012/05/heat-records-shattered-us-past-12-months

Or was it July 2011 to June 2012? http://news.mongabay.com/2012/0712-hance-us-12-months-extreme.html

Every few months NOAA names it the hottest twelve consecutive months on record. Mother Nature doesn’t care whether it fits on a calendar year or not. LOL It’s science.

        7. Robert (Plainwell) says:

bDBC, more and more deceipt from the warmists.
          http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/03/13/climategate-3-0-has-occurred-the-password-has-been-released/

I see the Marcott paper is full of hot air.
          http://climateaudit.org/2013/03/15/how-marcottian-upticks-arise/

It sure is fun playing with warmists when there are so many holes in their data.

        8. big Daddy BC says:

What hole? Can you give an example? All you do is paste links to right-wing sites. Where’s the science, Nutjob??

        9. Robert (Plainwell) says:

Me a nut job, your problem is you link to government funded sites that are tax payer funded and they have to some how show warming when there hasn’t been any or their funding is going to get cut. Look at the non adjusted data and that shows the truth.

Your side(warmists) have to blatantly lie about warming or say the model shows in 75 years the temp will rise 2 degrees well after there dead. More and more the lies become more obvious as real world weather doesn’t follow along as Hansen and Mann want everyone to believe.

        10. Robert (Plainwell) says:

Here is more proof of your side not caring what the data says.

          http://tomnelson.blogspot.com/p/climategate_05.html

I am sure you won’t read it though as you just like to spout off about adjusted data and what that tells.

          This is directed at bDBC.

        11. big Daddy BC says:

Another blog link. Seriously? NASA would be in no danger of losing funding if climate change scientists were wrong. NASA, though, is in good company with hundreds of American and foreign institutions who all believe that climate change is anthropomorphic. Your tax funding theory is puked out on shows like Limbaugh along with accusations about the president being Muslim and foreign. It’s hate radio and I realize how seductive hate can be when you’re sad about your own life. Misery loves company. But, turn the channel Robert. You’ll be surprised what the rest of the world has as its priorities…ending poverty – not continuing it, stopping HIV, elevating the status of women, and taking responsibility for the mess we’ve made of the natural world.

Here’s a link to the Japanese Meteorological Association. They’re not on the US tax payroll, but SURPRISE, they believe climate change is both man-made and a big problem. LOL

          http://ds.data.jma.go.jp/ghg/info_ghg_e.html

        12. Bill Steffen says:

At least link to something that supports you’re extremist, job-killing agenda of “skyrocketing” utility rates and $9 a gallon “European level” gasoline prices.

Global temperatures are flat…steady for the last decade:

Even “Handcuffs” Hansen says temperatures are flat:

          http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade… – James Hansen et al.

Climategate3! More damaging emails from the climate profiteers!! Here’s an oldie-but-goodie email from the last incriminating batch. This one from Kevin Trenberth in Colorado to Michael Mann:

“Well I have my own article on where the heck is global warming? We are asking that here in Boulder where we have broken records the past two days for the coldest days on record. We had 4 inches of snow. The high the last 2 days was below 30F and the normal is 69F, and it smashed the previous records for these days by 10F. The low was about 18F and also a record low, well below the previous record low. This is January weather (see the Rockies baseball playoff game was canceled on saturday and then played last night in below freezing weather)…

The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.”

LOL! “Where the heck is global warming…” LOL

        13. Robert (Plainwell) says:

          I don’t listen to Limbaugh.

The AGW scam is starting to take on water and you know it that is why you are so defensive.

          http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013/mar/17/climate-change-cut-national-curriculum

Oh and another thing I voted for Obama both times I just don’t believe in his environmental policies.

I am sorry that you get upset and say stupid things about my life being sad, but like Mann and the like you get pissy over anybody challenging your views.

        14. Irish coffee says:

“rest of the world has as it’s priorities” LOL!! Like China and it’s “anti”-birth campaign, or Muslim world and it’s anti-women crusade….Africa and HIV epidemic, etc
Interesting how Obama once stated(’06) how BUSH’S running the debt up was IRRESPONSIBLE…yet he comes in and runs up @ even HIGHER rate!!! So was the double-standard,two-faced, hypocrite lying THEN(’06) OR NOW??

  9. Jack says:

Roads will stay CLICK ?? New one on Me Bill. Lol… Stay Cued !!!! ;-)

    1. Bill Steffen says:

I never finished that thought…had to jump up and record a “tease”.

      1. Jack says:

Like, This One ? Bills Blog POTLUCK…..Coming Soon…. Time and Date, are in The Works. So…. Stay Cued ! ;-)

  10. TomKap (Michigan St. & Fuller) Grand Rapids says:

Really? The system as of right now, looks like it’s going South of us.

  11. DF (SE Mich) says:

One year ago right now a tornado was going through my village… Now it is going to snow 2-3 inches :) . I love it.

    1. INDY says:

Again glad u and your family made it safe!!! INDYY..

      1. Jack says:

+ The WHOLE Blog Family !! Stay Safe, and stay cued…….. ;-)

        1. DF (SE Mich) says:

Thanks guys. Since the tornado went so slow we had 26 minutes of tornado sirens before it hit. No one hurt, a miricle for an EF3.

    2. GunLakeDeb says:

Hard to believe that could happen in March, as cold as it is. Yeah – a few inches of snow is easy-peasy compared to a tornado.

  12. Nathan says:

Why is there an advisory for one inch of snow?

    1. Max (Zeeland) says:

      icy roads i believe

      1. Nathan says:

Rock, the advisory is for icy roads from the flash freeze, not necessarily a lot of snow

  13. Rodey (Rockford) says:

    Lets review the facts:
    1) It’s spring time

    2) There are no snowstorms in the long range.

    3) There will be no snow storms in April.

    4) Rock and roll died a long time ago.

    5) I will post this as many times as possible to be as annoying as Roccky.

    1. Dan says:

In the words of the great philosopher, Neil Young, “Hey, Hey, My, My…Rock and Roll will NEVER die”

You’ve got to love Winter in Michigan! Especially, these late season snow events!!!

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

That is one of his best songs ever!!!!!!!!!

        1. big Daddy BC says:

Mr. Young is a true legend. Remember ‘Rock Against Bush.’

“This is a time, I believe, of great inner turmoil for the majority of the American people. There is a new morality coming out of this administration — fundamentalist religious views; a holier-than-thou attitude towards the rest of the world — that is not classically American. I don’t think Americans felt holier-than-thou in the twentieth century. We were happy and successful, with a great lifestyle. But something else is going on now.” — Neil Young, Rolling Stone, Aug. 21, 2003

        2. Bill Steffen says:

This is the something else that’s going on now and it’s a lot more dangerous to our children and grandchildren that you’re faux global warming crusade: http://www.usdebtclock.org/

        3. big Daddy BC says:

That’s one of the reason Neil Young and hundreds of other bands joined in to Rock Against Bush. You conservatives get to own that debt. Those tax cuts for the rich have killed our economy.

        4. Bill Steffen says:

You could confiscate (steal) every nickel from everyone making over $200,000 a year and you’d still have a debt crisis. And no…Obama is Mr. Debt:

          http://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/attachments/budgetinfographic.pdf

          http://home.adelphi.edu/sbloch/deficits.html

I prefer this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKIe8AokW8E (lyrics included)

        5. big Daddy BC says:

Hilarious that you’d consider repealing tax breaks as ‘stealing’ from the rich. LOL How about paying their fair share. Those tax cuts did lead to a recession that’s cost the middle class their standard of living. Many sank right into poverty, swelling the need for those government programs you hate so much. The bill was too great. We couldn’t afford tax breaks for the rich, a revenge war, and the countless GOP blunders that led to a housing collapse and episode after episode of ‘Bankers Gone Wild.’ I’m grateful that Obama’s fixed most of that. Unemployment is back down. Housing values are going up. Healthcare is now affordable for those in need. AND, he’s caught and killed Bin Laden and ended the war in Iraq. GO PRES!

        6. Bill Steffen says:

Funny that you would vote to kill the Keystone Pipeline when it’s actually better for the environment that it be built and that it would create thousands of union jobs.

The government is wasting money left and right:

They spent $148,000+ on a Magic Museum in Marshall MI.

Unemployment is still, after more than 4 years, much higher than the average of the Bush years and the highest since Jimmy Carter knocked unemployment up close to 11%. (http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000). Also a lot of the hiring has been done by government and not the private sector. The 7 richest counties in the U.S. are the seven counties that surround Washington, D.C.

        7. big Daddy BC says:

The average of the Bush years includes the rosy economy and surplus he inherited from Clinton/Gore. Obama corrected things. From 2007 on, we were spiraling down the toilet and taking Europe with us. Bush and six years of GOP control was a disaster. Now that we’ve got dems in charge, things are once again going in the other direction, 2.2% per year. Huh!! Go figure.

          http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/12/26/why-2013-should-be-a-good-year-for-the-u-s-economy/

        8. Bill Steffen says:

Obama’s corrected what? The unemployment rate is the same now as when he took office. He’s added hundreds of thousands of new Federal employees. The private sector hasn’t grown and still isn’t growing. That’s where wealth is created, not in government. Today we learned of yet another “green energy” failure: http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/news/local/kent_county/turbine-plant-closes More jobs gone. More grant money, more tax breaks wasted. The policies of Harry Reid are nothing like the policies of Clinton. Clinton had 3 years with balanced budgets. Instead of Harry Reid, you ought to take the advice of this Democrat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AAEp0J_hzU

BTW: This is an exact quote from the article you linked to above:

“The recession…ended more than three years ago. Yet some 12 million Americans are still looking for work, and many millions more would confirm that it hasn’t felt like a recovery at all. That would include the people who have seen their incomes flatline or have been drowning in mortgage debt for years on end. The data support this impression, that the U.S. economy still hasn’t really recovered.”

        9. Dan says:

6.2 trillion in new Obama debt, just added. Also, this doesn’t not include Obamacare, which SHOULD be struck down. However, the out of control spender will probably get his way!
Big Daddy look at the stats, will you?
Obama has outspent more than any other President! Please don’t give me that its Bush’s fault for BO wreckless spending!!! When is this President EVER going to step up and lead? Blaming others and making excuses is not leadership! Country will once again be at in the middle of big debt issues next month!! I seriously thought, Obama was supposed to work with others. He is supposed to be the President. However, he acts as if he can do whatever he wants and spend as if there is no end to the supply of money!! What accountability is here? Pelosi, Reed? Cmon, Big Daddy serioulsy! Musicians, including Neil Young are entertainers first! Should keep that in perspective

        10. big Daddy BC says:

I guess it’s a good thing the American public doesn’t agree with your narrow right-wing views. Obama trounced Romney. It wasn’t even close. Despite your ‘professional’ assessments of the president’s effect, he did stop the impending depression, ended the war, killed Bin Laden, got Wall Street under control, passed Universal Healthcare, and repaired our image in the world.

        11. Dan says:

Funny how you deflect from the truth that Obama has outspent any other President and he will continue with his recklessness! Obama got Bin Laden on Bush’s intel, oh yeah lets check on what Obama is doing with that now? Ambassador was killed all in the name of a video? C’mon Big Daddy!
I wasn’t even talking about Obama beating Romney! I was talking about spending. Economy is growing at what rate again? Oh yeah, lets bury our head in the sand on that one too! Blame others much? Still, Obama has not lead, he has manipulated his way.
He doesn’t act like a President. He acts like a movie star who is on pace to keep spending so that our taxes can be out of control!!!

        12. Dan says:

Hey; I know, lets get the government involved in gun control.
Since, everybody is so pleased with everything else! What do you think the 2nd amendment is all about? Should I spell it out for you, Big Daddy?

        13. Dan says:

By the way, Big daddy you should check your facts. The 2012 Presidential election was 51% for Obama to 47% for Romney in popular vote.
That is VERY CLOSE! American public is DIVIDED! The numbers are there. Do you not think that 4 percentage points are NOT even close?
If you do not, you should go back and learn some more about data analysis.

        14. Dan says:

Although you accuse me as having a very narrow view, Big Daddy. You seem to think I am among a very few people, you should really analyze numbers and raw data!! I can only think of these words to describe you, recalcitrant, mulish and dogmatic. You MAY need to look words those up. I’m going to resort to keeping with text book definitions because as evidenced by your previous posts, you don’t understand analogies and metaphors!! You claimed that I was narrow in my view. Yet, you lumped yourself in with the view of the American People? WOW, can anybody say stretch?

        15. big Daddy BC says:

I must admit, Dan. I did have to look up recalcitrant. Your rather impressive use of vocabulary is astounding. I’m just unsure as to how you think this impressive adjective could be applied to me. The president IS the authority and you’re the one questioning him. But who am I to question you? LOL

          http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/25/the-bush-tax-cuts-and-the-deficit/

        16. Dan says:

Again with the deflection, WOW! Why am I not surprised, Big Daddy? I know what we should do, argue about whether the seats on the Titanic were made of wood or plastic.

        17. Dan says:

Lets blame Bush. WOW! Really, is that leadership? I asked you this before and all you TRIED to do was defend Obama.
If you were worth it, why wouldn’t you be donating money to research or helping those that are most affected/influenced by you?
Think about it, just for a moment..will you?
Big Daddy, you continually interrupt a weather blog to spew your drivel. Is this having any effect? If you would please carefully consider the data. What happens when you do this?

        18. big Daddy BC says:

Provide some data to consider. Your sentences barely assemble themselves into a coherent thought.

        19. Bill Steffen says:

Naw, you’re thinking of the ClimateGate3 emails! They’ve just been released and WOW! What an embarrassment to the climate profiteers! Check this out: http://jennifermarohasy.com/2013/03/climategate-3-thank-you-mr-foia/

    2. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Nice try fixxxer, however you have all of the facts 100% WRONG as usual!!!!

  17. Blue Moon says:

Radar looks like nothing for us, nice….

  18. DF (SE Mich) says:

If you guys are interested this is the view of the tornado coming last year from my neighborhood. This is not my video. I was taping from my roof but could only see the wall cloud. I went to the basement as soon as it rained wrapped. Enjoy.

  19. Nathan says:

Im still not expecting a lot of snow with this. Maybe two inches at most

  20. Rocky (Rockford) says:

The SNOW will be here in a couple hours and the RDB still shows 2-4 inches for GR. Get ready people – have you heard it is still WINTER! Who knew?

    1. Nathan says:

I knew, winter doesn’t end until next week… Btw, take a look at this article:
      http://www.accuweather.com/en/home-garden-articles/earth-you/arctic-gets-greener-as-climate/7969433

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Interesting article! Now get ready for a lot of COLD and SNOW!!

      2. Bill Steffen says:

That article, like so many, starts in the 70s to early 80s. That was when we had the coldest decade of the last +100 years. It did warm up from the early 1980s to about 2002 and temperatures have been steady since then. Remember what I wrote here: http://blogs.woodtv.com/2011/01/25/january-temp-by-decade/ Note the 2 graphs at the link.

At the other end of the world, the opposite has been happening since 1982: http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.anomaly.antarctic.png

Global temperatures have held steady for the past decade: The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade… – James Hansen et al.

        NASA Global Temperatures: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

        1. big Daddy BC says:

As far as your increase in sea ice goes. Hansen predicted that would happen back in the ’70s. You can’t glue sea ice onto the melting glacial ice sheets. Stop the campaign of dishonesty.

        2. Bill Steffen says:

Give me an exact quote from Hansen that predicted that Antarctic ice would expand like this:

          http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.anomaly.antarctic.png

An exact verifiable quote, print or verbal.

        3. big Daddy BC says:

I’ll head over to the library tomorrow and report back. Stay tuned.

      3. big Daddy BC says:

Steady? LOL NOAA just named the last twelve months the hottest year on record!
Where do you get your rhetoric?

Or was it May 2011 to April 2012? http://www.motherjones.com/blue-marble/2012/05/heat-records-shattered-us-past-12-months

Or was it July 2011 to June 2012? http://news.mongabay.com/2012/0712-hance-us-12-months-extreme.html

Every few months NOAA names it the hottest twelve consecutive months on record. Mother Nature doesn’t care whether it fits on a calendar year or not. LOL It’s science.

        1. Bill Steffen says:

I thought you were going to the library. I’m still waiting. So you’re back to that trusted scientific authority, Mother Jones!

The truth is that “global warming” has flat-lined. The wind’s stopped blowing and the boat is sitting dead in the water.

You link to Mother Jones. I link to NASA:

          http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

Here’s what James Hansen of NASA wrote: “The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade….” – James Hansen et al.

Dr. Judith Curry of the famous BEST group at Berkeley:

‘There is no scientific basis for saying that warming hasn’t stopped,’ she said. ‘To say that there is detracts from the credibility of the data, which is very unfortunate.’

      4. Bill Steffen says:

        1. big Daddy BC says:

Mother Jones was using NOAA figures. You can’t hide the truth. We’re continually breaking twelve and six month records. Choose your source. It doesn’t matter. You, Sir, are dishonest. It’s getting hotter. We’ve been above average for the last 336 consecutive months. The last twelve were the hottest on record.

          Here’s NASA: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.D.gif

LOL I think eventually viewers are going to see that you cut and paste the same tired, taken out of context misrepresentations over and over and over and over…

Here’s what Dr. Hansen of NASA really has to say: http://www.ted.com/talks/james_hansen_why_i_must_speak_out_about_climate_change.html

        2. Nathan says:

Like usual, Bill and big Daddy have their different opinions… Its one way or the other! Is the Earth STILL warming/cooling or is it just a typical, natural trend in temperature changes over time? In my opinion, the Earth is being affected by green house gases, there is proof. But I also believe that the experts exaggerate the effects of a warming planet. How would a warming planet increase meteor impacts? Maybe there is an increase in storm systems and a decrease in the polar icecap volume, but not to the extreme extent that some individuals believe. And if you think about it, global cooling would have much more destructive effects than global warming!

        3. big Daddy BC says:

Are you saying it has to be one or the other, Nathan?

Are you aware of the other effects of relying so heavily on fossil fuels for energy? Ocean pH is decreasing. Rain pH is decreasing. Mercury contaminates our lakes and streams. Pipelines rupture – a million gallons of crude spilled into the Kalamazoo River two years ago. BPs Horizon – worst oil spill in history. And on and on. Whether you believe we’re warming the Atmosphere or not, these other things cannot be denied.

        4. Bill Steffen says:

And a 17 TRILLION dollar debt along with massive, unfunded liabilities is going to be a more destructive than a totally unproven one-degree rise in temperature.

Look at how many former alarmists are jumping the leaky climate profiteer’s boat and swimming to the shore of reason and logic:

          http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/04/23/11144098-gaia-scientist-james-lovelock-i-was-alarmist-about-climate-change?lite

          http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=2f4cc62e-5b0d-4b59-8705-fc28f14da388

          http://notrickszone.com/2013/02/17/meteorologist-dominik-jung-turns-skeptical-after-germany-sets-record-5-consecutive-colder-than-normal-winters/

        5. Nathan says:

And part of the millions of dollars of debt is related to natural disasters, such as hurricane Sandy and the severe drought in the plains… But a change in temperatures doesnt necessarily increase the likelihood of these disasters. They could be coincidence? And even if warming temperatures does lead to natural disasters, it isn’t necessarily linked directly to fossil fuels… Maybe its just part of natures ups and downs! Thats what my opinion is.

        6. big Daddy BC says:

Oh, hey. He lost the argument so it’s now time for the famous bate-and-fear tactic! If you could you’d probably put us on alert status ORANGE! LOL We’re not talking about debt. We’re talking about CO2. Any opinions on bleaching coral reefs? How about mercury laden Trout? …Maybe something about the selection against certain key stone plants, insects, and amphibians as the soil continues to acidify? That one degree is actually 1.6 degrees and that’s an average. The numbers get much higher as you move away from the equator.

        7. Nathan says:

Ok first of all, Bill mentioned debt… and secondly, I think we are all in this argument together! And yes, I do have opinions, big Daddy. I know a lot about global warming as I research it all the time and it interests me. Soil becomes more acidic when acid mixes with rain from factories and smog/C)2 itself affects the acidity of soil. How can we prevent it? Find a different energy source!

        8. big Daddy BC says:

My comment was supposed to be directed at Bill. You posted before I refreshed. No harm intended.

        9. Nathan says:

Oh XD, lets hear Bills response then and see what he has to say :P

        10. big Daddy BC says:

The most common source of acid in water is dissolved CO2, as in the stuff we’re pumping out of our tailpipes, chimneys, and smokestacks. It creates carbonic acid and has raised ocean acid levels by 30%. I agree that we need to begin looking at renewable sources for electricity production.

        11. Nathan says:

Back on the warming/cooling topic, you cant really argue and say that the Earth is cooling by backing it up with the abnormally cool March in Michigan… Likewise, you know when a global warming alarmist has no idea what he/she is talking about when saying that the West USA is extraordinary warm. Thats just one small chunk of the world! How about last summers heat waves in Australia or Europe’s frigid winter? The main point of decision is at the poles, both north and south. And evidence shows that they are warming and melting at high rates!

        12. Bill Steffen says:

Nathan – don’t believe this guy. He’s a special interest shill who has offered no science credentials.

Global warming has fallen on hard times because global temperatures are not warming and haven’t been for the last decade. This is an undisputed fact:

This is straight from NASA: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

James Hansen has been such a rabid, ultra-extreme climate profiteer that he’s been arrested 3 times (the latest time protesting Obama) and even HE has had to admit that global temperatures are not warming:

“The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade….” – James Hansen et al.

Dr. Judith Curry: ‘There is no scientific basis for saying that warming hasn’t stopped,’ she said. ‘To say that there is detracts from the credibility of the data, which is very unfortunate.’ She goes on to say the climate models are “deeply flawed”.

Thousands of scientists reject the catastrophic alarmism and the “solution” of raising taxes on the middle class (what just happened to your payroll tax), “skyrocketing” utility rates and $9 a gallon “European level” gasoline prices. Think how those policies will drag down our economy and raise unemployment (and at your age, you’ve got to be thinking about finding a decent job).

Nathan – you’re young, the National Debt is going to be your problem. It’s unsustainable. It can’t be fixed by sucking all the money out of Forest Hills. Politicians and their shills waste too much of our money. Think of the college scholarships we could have given with the $151 million dollars wasted at LG Chem or the $535 million wasted at Solyndra. BigDaddy supports the special interest politically-connected cronies who weasel this grant money with no risk to themselves and pay themselves big-time until they run out of money, fold up shop and run to the next grant. Wasting money like this doesn’t help the environment and it’s driving us closer to bankruptcy.

        13. Dan says:

Nathan: Big Daddy is WAY too full of himself to accept what you say. Case in point, “You posted before I refreshed, no harm intended?” Give me a break! Big Daddy is at work attempting to dupe you. Look at the facts and decide for yourself even though Big Daddy will work to manipulate your thinking.
Its tough for him because he keeps getting beat so badly by Bill! He responds by calling names and putting others down.
When challenged he launches into the EXACT SAME worn out talking points. Don’t take my word for it, go back and look!
Remember Nathan, we don’t need others to think for us, we can think for ourselves!!

        14. big Daddy BC says:

          That was painful.

Bill explains to ‘young’ Nathan HOW to think and then Dan the Sycophant parrots the great right wing prognosticator, ending with “we can think for ourselves!” Hilarious. Don’t forget, Nathan, that if you think like them, you’re thinking for yourself. Any other thinking doesn’t count. Let the brainwashing begin!!! LOL

        15. Dan says:

6.2 Trillion in new Obama debt! Obamacare that has been struck down as illegal in several states. Except, now that the Supreme Court has voted its ok, right?
          Who will you listen to?

        16. big Daddy BC says:

          You, apparently.

        17. Bill Steffen says:

Climategate 3 – another batch of seriously damaging emails from the climate profiteers. In a short time this article has had 2300 comments! http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100206888/climategate-foia-the-man-who-saved-the-world/ (note the last paragraph).

      5. Robert (Plainwell) says:

Nathan your statement about The South Pole warming is wrong.
        http://www.climate4you.com/Polar%20temperatures.htm#Diagram%20Antarctic%20MAAT

I believe that Antarctic ice will probably start to decrease in the coming years as the Southern Hemisphere begins to warm while the Northern Hemisphere begins to cool as the ocean cycles do their usual oscillations. I believe Arctic will begin to increase again as the AMO goes to its cool phase in the coming years.

We also may need to monitor the Sun and see if diminished sunspot activity mainly UV has any influence on the climate.

        1. big Daddy BC says:

          LOL

        2. Bill Steffen says:

A courageous whistle-blower has released a new batch of Climategate emails and they are just as damaging to the climate profiteers as the first two batches. Read on: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/03/13/climategate-3-0-has-occurred-the-password-has-been-released/

  21. Rocky (Rockford) says:

The 00Z RDB model still shows 4 to 8 inches of SNOW Monday night through Wednesday! COLD, SNOW and WIND in on the way! I love it!!!

    1. Andy says:

Monday Snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Monday Night A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.
Tuesday A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Breezy.
Tuesday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20.
Wednesday A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 31.

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

That forecast will end up being 100% WRONG! What a joke, however if that is from the GR NWS that explain it! We will be seeing a decent SNOWSTORM baby! MARK IT DOWN!!

  22. Brian (Grandville) says:

Corned beef brisket on sale now. Get while you can. I got a 4 1/2 pounder today. Going in the roaster oven Sunday @ noon with all the fixins. Can’t wait.

  23. Rocky (Rockford) says:

The SNOW has arrived. It will be SNOWING for at least the next 10 hours straight! FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Brian (Grandville) says:

This thread is DONE . Hijacked again.

  25. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Don’t worry people madam Rockys psychic weather hotline is wrong 95% of the time. No snowstorm next week. He is 100% wrong.

  26. mr. negative says:

Very fine snow falling in SE GR. Strangely similar to the first week of June this year.

  27. Vincent(N.E.Kent CO) says:

The road and ground are snow covered here already. Snow falling at a steady rate. 30.4°

  28. Jack says:

Off Topic…WINGS WIN, in OT !!!!!! (FINALLY). ;-)

    1. Brian (Grandville) says:

Good to here Jack. It’s not like the past drcade any more when you just expect a win.

  29. DF (SE Mich) says:

Ground is covered in snow over here. Roads are still just wet. Quite a contrast from last year.

  30. steelie says:

    Good Day,

Not that much to report near Breton and 52nd. Maybe an inch on the ground.

    Steelie

  31. Vincent(N.E.Kent CO) says:

Have 3 inches of new snow here. I better go plow it off the driveway in awhile. 25°. Last year, the last time i plowed was Feb 25th.
