Lots of Snow up North

grand marais    grand marais 2Pictures from the U.P. courtesy of the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assn.  Snowcover reported today (3/26):  53″ Hoist Basin and Painesdale, 47″ Grand Marais and Delaware, 40″ Munising, 39″ Marquette, 35″ two miles SE of Houghton.  Season snowfall:  251.0″ Delaware, 247.9″ Twin Lakes, 223.9″ Herman, 196.8″ Painesdale, 183.3″ Munising, 178.6″ Marquette NWS, 172.0″ Ontonagon, 156.2″ Bergland Dam.   A fair number of Michigan ski resorts will be open this Easter weekendAlyeska, Alaska has had 672″ of snow this season!

    Guess I’ll get to witness this first hand in a couple days. I’m taking my son to visit Michigan Tech in Houghton this weekend as he is considering going there for college. If only I could talk him into going somewhere in say Arizona……

    Ii bet a lot of people in the UP are getting sick of the snow as well and they will have snow there well into April and who knows some of that snow could hang on into May.
