Full Moon

full moon lincoln memorial   Full moon to the right of the Lincoln Memorial – pic. from NASA and Bill Ingalls.  The clouds cleared out during the night and the bright, full “Worm Moon” was shining brightly in the late night hours.  Here’s this week’s Sky at a Glance.  Jupiter is visible in the west after sunset.  Saturn is also visible much of the night, moving from the SE to the SW sky.  The sun remains very “quiet” with few and small sunspots.  Comet PanSTARRS is very faint and fading.  Nice picture here.  Here’s the comet over Lake Superior.  Here’s a close-up of the Milky Way – how many stars (suns) are in this picture?   Here’s a schedule of flyovers of the International Space Station.

Funny that you mentioned that! My dad called me and said how big the moon was! So I quickly checked the moon phases, and sure enough, we have a full moon!

Anyone heading down to Florida next week from what I’ve been hearing from other weather sites is that its looking like a cool and very wet pattern. A big storm is coming out of the southwest this weekend and will roll very slowly through the southeast all next week. Why I don’t go south during the early spring. Nice sunny day today here.

Florida’s had a couple of really hot days lately. Lots of record highs with temps around 90. Cooler now, but it looks hot again next week. I have lots of friends in Florida, so I always hear all about it.

Looks like spring is on the way for Michigan! Hoping for some good thunderstorms soon.

Monthly temperature departure March 1-26: Miami -4.6 degrees, Orlando -5.3 degrees, Tampa -5.7 degrees, Jacksonville -6.4 degrees. Orlando has only had 3 days this month with high temperatures over 80. They have had 7 days when the high temperature has not reached 70. The AVERAGE high temperature for today (27th) in Orlando is 80. Orlando has set no record high temperatures this month. They have set one record low temperature: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/getclimate.php?wfo=mlb

        1. Travis (Oakland County) says:

The most notables I see: Miami broke an all-time record of 90 on Sunday, Ft Lauderdale broke theirs with 91, and Orlando broke an all-time high for the date on Saturday with 88 degrees at the airport.

        2. Bill Steffen says:

Those were daily records for one day. Orlando actually has several airports that keep weather records (inc. Sanford) and the period of record is not the same (it’s easier to set a record temperature if the period of record is 25 years as opposed to 100 years.

Does anyone think we will have a warm up by April 7th or April 14th? One of those days im heading out fishing on Lake Michigan and would like it to be atleast 50 out if not warmer.

My experience is that the temp out on the Big Lake, is basically whatever the water temp is? (We took a half-day Glacier Tour by boat while in Valdez, AK – we wore our long underwear/winter coats/hats/gloves. Because the air temp was in the low 70′s in Valdez – some folks showed up in shorts and T-shirts; and they were FREEZING once we left the harbor….LOL!!)

Wish I had been able to see the comet…very cool picture. Also love the Milky Way pic……wondering how many stars you can see is kind of like looking at a huge oak tree and wondering how many toothpics you could make out of it ;)
