Ski Michigan This Weekend

indianhead snow  Great spring skiing right now.  Ski Brule in the U.P. reports a 54-72″ base.  It’s been cold enough that conditions are almost mid-winter good.  Check out the 360-degree web cam they have.  Nub’s Nob will be open this weekend.  All 53 slopes and trails are open there.  They’ve had 121″ of snow this winter.  Boyne Mt. has a 42-62″ base with 5 of 12 lifts open and most trails open.  They report very good conditions at Crystal Mt. (nice pic. at link) with a base of up to 65″.   Caberfae is closed mid-week, but will be open this Saturday and Sunday.  They have a base of over 50″ and report a season snowfall of 143.5″.  Pine Mt., near Iron Mt., is open with a 24-36″ base.   Mt. Bohemia in the Keweenaw has 85 of 85 runs open and they report 6″ of snow in the last 48 hours and 260″ of snowfall for the season.  It looks like mid-winter up there!  Treetops will be open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Look at the deal they have for this weekend:  “Anyone who shows us their season ski pass from any other ski area in Michigan is welcome to ski FREE at Treetops for the rest of the season.  Just show us your pass in Skier Services!”  Blackjack will be open this weekend with a 72″ base.  They’ve had 222″ of snow this season!  Marquette Mt. is open daily with a 40-48″ base and 3″ of new snow.

Tues. AM snow cover reports:  44″ Big Bay, 42″ S. Grand Marais, 35″ Marquette Co. Airport, 29″ Munising, Champion, 28″ Calumet and Twin Lakes, 27″ Newberry, 20″ S. Ste. Marie.  Champion was 7 below zero Tues. AM, Marquette dropped to +2.   In Lower Michigan:   10″ Kalkaska, 6″ Gaylord (11″ in the woods), 4″ Houghton Lake, 3″ Cadillac, 2″ Traverse City (Munson Arpt.), 1″ Alpena.

I went skiing the first week of April at Boyne Mountain, back in the late 90′s. We also went to Searchmont a few days before that on the same trip. Conditions were great at both locations.

This thread is all yours Rocky.

Just 2 days into the MLB regular season, and there is already a not hit bid going late into the game in the Texas.

That’s crazy, but does it count because it is against the Astros after all :)

Um skiing in April! Where have I heard that before? A month ago when I mentioned this most of the warm weather nuts said no way! I will be skiing this weekend and this will be the 11th weekend in a row with GREAT WINTER sports conditions! The COLD and SNOW just keeps rolling along. Simply one of the best Spring seasons in many, many, many ,many years! I love it!!!!

  6. Travis (Oakland County) says:

The ski resorts here closed almost two weeks ago (so did Boyne Highlands), but it wasn’t a too bad of a year after a bad start. Boyne Mountain always stays open as late as possible.

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

I would hate to be stuck down in Oakland County where there is always lees SNOW, virtually no lake effect SNOW, very little time when the winter sports conditions are excellent! It sounds like one step above jail. Just horrible :)

      1. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Yeah, your whopping 60″ compared to our 45″ this year. At least we can always go up north! That’s where I skied the most this winter anyway.

        1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

GR is up to 65 plus inches and Muskegon is almost at 100 inches! From late January on the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex was rocking and rolling!

Thanks Bill for all of those great links to the ski areas and all of the GREAT pictures of the SNOW!! This has given some more ideas for skiing this weekend and beyond! Keep up the good work!!!

Cold today only in the high 30′s. We still have quite a bit of snow left but it is melting some. The banks are still very high. When I came through Wisconsin on the way back from Vegas there was still some snow left in Green Bay and this was the 24th of March. They still report a trace on the ground and Rhinelander in Northern Wisconsin still has 17 inches on the ground! We probably have at least 8-10 yet or a little less.
