Local   We’ll move this thread to a Saturday showers thread.  There could be a brief period of light snow across the far northern part of the area early Sat. AM, with a shower threat for the entire area later in the afternoon and for Sat. night.  For current Michigan weather observations and wind speeds, click here. Here’s NAM model snowfall thru 84 hours, the GFS snowfall thru 120 hours and the HPC snowfall predictions. Here’s WOOD-TV Interactive Radar, looping radar. Check out regional radar, GRR radar, northern Indiana radar, Chicago radar and Milwaukee radar. Here’s the College of DuPage Radar Map, the local warning/advisory map and the National warning/watch/advisory map. You can checkout the latest Grand Rapids NWS discussion, the Northern Indiana NWS discussion (includes the Michigan Counties that border Indiana), the discussion for Northern Lower Michigan, and Eastern Lower Michigan. Here’s the Spyglass Condos Weather Station the S. Haven GLERL station, the Muskegon GLERL station, the Grand Haven Steelheaders webcam and weather station, and the weather station at Holland State Park. Check out the WOOD lightning tracker and U.S. lightning, the Maranatha Webcam at Lake Michigan and links to webcams. i just hope we start really warning up soon. this below average highs is getting old.

    1. Nathan says:

Yea, I keep checking data and it appears that Michigan will experience a huge temperature divide next week! Areas along the Indiana border may see highs in the 60′s while area north of Big Rapids could see some snow!

    2. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Your wish is my command. Average high is 53. GR should beat that today!

      1. fixxxer says:

        not warm enough for me.

      2. michael g (SE GR) says:

-4* yesterday, -9* for April so far. 23 of last 24 days at or below normal. Sure has been warm!

  2. Paul (Barry State Game Area/eastern Yankee Springs Twp) says:

It’s been perfect for wood splitting…..gotten 3 or 4 cords done the past two days for next winter. Not like last year when I was sweating to death…..gonna be a great year for the garden.

  3. Rocky (Rockford) says:

michigan won this one is for you! Enjoy! Bill used the word SNOW 5 times in this thread! I love it! The 3-8 day DGEX shows NW Lower MI picking up 6 to 10 inches of SNOW! The GFS shows plenty of SNOW for NW Lower MI over the next week or so! FANTASTIC! Skiing till May! Awesome! This is the best Spring weather that we have seen this century! Thanks for listening! ROCK N ROLL will never die!!!!!!!!!

    1. michigan won says:

      Rocky,

Ouch, that’s a good one Rocky. Still talking about the weather somewhere other than here. We’ve had next to no snow in our area for the last 6 weeks and there’s no snow on the ground at all. The people on the east side of the state are bashed constantly for reporting from there yet all you can do is talk about the weather up north. It’s no more here than the east side. Thanks for listening.

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Wow very lame comments – WORTHLESS!

        1. michigan won says:

          Again, your simply an idiot.

    2. Nathan says:

Rocky I dont really care how much snow is up there… Its all about West Michigan!

      1. SBPortage002 says:

Yeah let em have it. We will concentrate on spring here. I am glad I am not up there or in the U.P. right now. Nice day outside.

      2. Rocky (Rockford) says:

        Thanks for sharing!

    3. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Bill mentioned rain or showers 4 times in this thread. I love it. Fantastic. GFS shows plenty of rain for the lower part of the state. Fantastic. I love it. Awesome. Thanks for listening etc etc etc.

  4. fixxxer says:

Go up north and stay there.

    1. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Leave him alone. Get used to him.

      1. fixxxer says:

You sure your not the same person? My spidey senses are tingleing.

        1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

You have no clue! You are 100% ignorant!

        2. Rodey (Rockford) says:

I’m thinking you and Indy are one in the same. Can’t have it both ways. You said get used to Indy but you complain about Rocky so heed your own advice. They both bring the blog down but used to them.

        3. fixxxer says:

Just proved my point thanks. Reminds me of jordans multiple personailities. And no…lmao indy and i are two totally different people. Do some research and you will find he is very real.

          Darn noobs on here. ;)

        4. Jack says:

          Noobs..Ha,ha,ha….Love it !! ;-)

        5. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Sorry, not a newbie. Been around here a long time. Now Jack is a noob, he hasn’t been here long at all.

        6. Jack says:

How do you knew Long I’ve Been Here? Rodey ( NOBBVILLE). Never had any other names Either ! Dumb-Arse.. ;-)

  5. Brian(Grandville) says:

Well, the tigers managed to blow 2 out of 3, and nearly lost the first one. I know it’s just the start of the season, but not what you would expect with all that talent. Now lets sweep the yankees @ home this weekend.

    1. Jack says:

I hear Ya Brian.. Another Sad Note that we signed Papa Grumpa, just what we need ( NOT) !! The Tigers always make Me scratch my Head and Say WTH…. Long Season, so Stay Cued ! Just like The WEATHER….we shall See…. ;-)

  6. Uncle Sparkee says:

Ohhhh, your ol uncle sparks got messed up in the big city last night. What the hell happened to the weather ball. My wild ass nephew Indy took me the pit last night. Country music my ass! I thought all you big city lights how to party! Anyone within 5 rows of me was wondering what the hell smelled like skunk! Hahaha it was your ol uncle sparks sparkin up! Thanks nephew for keepin the crazy ladies partying with us all night! Their was more Rollin than any of you nut hounds will ever know!

    1. Jack says:

Hey, Uncle S… Indoor or Outdoor Grown…Skunk? Myself I like Outdoor Grown. Tis the Season to Get the OUTDOOR , Garden Going…Stay Cued. And Rollin, Rollin, Rollin….Keep those TOKES( pun intended)… Ah Rollin… PEACE.. ;-)

      1. Uncle Sparkee says:

Indoor soon to movin outdoor! Old aunty Edna ready to have her closet back!!

  7. big Daddy BC says:

“…when up to 10% of the trees in your state are dead or dying (as was the case in Texas by the end of 2011), or when your city gets more than twice as much rain in 24 hours as it’s measured on any other day (which happened in Binghamton, New York, last summer), it’s only natural to ask: Was that natural variability or global warming?”

    https://www2.ucar.edu/atmosnews/attribution/doping-atmosphere

“According to NCAR’s Kevin Trenberth, it’s critical to recognize that every large-scale weather extreme now operates in an atmosphere that’s been altered by fossil-fuel use. Trenberth, who was among the first to attribute seasonal U.S. weather shifts to El Niño and La Niña, emphasizes the context of increased greenhouse gases, higher temperatures, and enhanced water vapor in which extreme events now play out. He and colleagues have mapped global flows of energy and moisture…”

    1. Bill Steffen says:

Texas State Climatologist: “There is no evidence that climate change contributed to the lack of rainfall, because rainfall has risen over the past century in the state.”

Kevin Trenberth: “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.”

It’s a travesty because we might lose that grant $$. He has reason to be worried. Global temperatures are NOT rising. They have been steady for over 10 years! http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

      1. Cort S. says:

Pardon the intrusion. I can’t help but wonder though, where does that extra greenhouse-trapped energy go? Physics says it can’t just disappear. If the earth’s surface temperature is not warming, then what else might be? The upper atmosphere? The ocean surface? Below the ocean surface? Latent heat flux? Or can it be offset by declines in incoming or absorbed shortwave radiation?

        1. Bill Steffen says:

First, it’s pretty obvious that the Earth isn’t warming right now: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

“Even Hansen admits that: The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade…” – James Hansen et al.

So the projections/computer models are inaccurate: https://twitter.com/BigJoeBastardi/status/314205289421361153/photo/1 and the nightmarish scenarios and scary forcings are certainly more than questionable.

A question – is this just a speed bump on the way to the burn-up or are their factors that are not known and not factored into the computer models? Are we weighing elements too much or too little? My much-smarter-than-me father-in-law, who was a top head research chemist and was lent to NASA to work on coatings for the Apollo mission, maintained that the total warming from CO2 will be many times smaller than forecast, will be at least as beneficial as not and will not lead to diabolical forcing issues. My much-smarter-than-me brother-in-law, a lead research scientist at the Oak Ridge Lab told me “at least 80% of the scientists there” do not buy catastrophic warming from CO2. He’s one of them. He’s a non-religious libertarian, BTW. My father-in-law has passed away. My brother-in-law is technically an “environmental engineer” and he’s worked on my projects, including working with Energy Secretary Chu. He would first say that the “trapped energy” is factored too high – that the ratio of incoming to outgoing was smaller than forecast. I’ll be going down to see them in late May and I should ask if I could speak to a group of his fellow scientists. I might be able to turn it into a blog thread, who knows.

Beware of those who demand radical job-killing and economy-killing (not to mention the health issues, like have carcinogen-filled lightbulbs in your house) measures to advance a political agenda when the result would be not a tenth of a degree change in global temperature.

        2. steelie says:

          Good Day,

I’ll have to look for it… But there was a recent article about the Southern Oceans that was quite interesting.

          Steelie

        3. big Daddy BC says:

The Earth’s surface IS warming. Cort makes a good point. Where’s the energy going? He also brings up phase change energy conversions, evaporative cooling – for example. He’s right. As more water is absorbed by the warmer air, energy is absorbed…latent heat. As more glacial ice melts, energy is absorbed…latent heat. Humidity has gone up. That’s documented. But I take exception with Bill’s claim that heating isn’t taking place any longer. That’s ridiculous. We’re continually breaking records seasonally, monthly, and for consecutive periods. The idea that nature is limited by the calendar makes no sense. Years are blips on the climate record. Look at these graphics built by Berkeley and based on the work done by several independent agencies: http://berkeleyearth.org/results-summary/

Bill, I appreciate that your conservative family doesn’t agree with the mainstream, but what difference does that make to the argument. We’ll have to take your word on how ‘smart’ they are or were. Again, anecdotes in a scientific discussion are pointless. This isn’t politics, it’s data-driven. It’s not about jobs or light bulbs. It’s about a changing biogeography. It’s about ocean acidification, melting glaciers, and disappearing habitat.

          http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2012/11/29/strong-evidence-for-ocean-acidification-impacts-in-southern-ocean/

        4. Bill Steffen says:

Lots of links here to scientists who easily dispute the alarmist hype of acidification. If anyone’s interested in the topic, click on this link and go thru the articles: http://wattsupwiththat.com/?s=acidification+ocean

NASA says global sea surface temperatures have cooled since 1998: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2008/Fig2b.gif

The Earth’s surface is NOT warming…NOT…global temperature has been flat for over 10 years:

First, it’s pretty obvious that the Earth isn’t warming right now: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

“Even Hansen admits that: The five-year mean global temperature has been flat for the last decade…” – James Hansen et al.

Dr. Judith Curry has called the climate models “deeply flawed”.

The number of scientists jumping the alarmist ship continues to grow:

          http://www.forbes.com/sites/jamestaylor/2013/02/13/peer-reviewed-survey-finds-majority-of-scientists-skeptical-of-global-warming-crisis/

My family has Masters, Doctorates and decades of experience as head research scientists. You are a special-interest shill who has offered not even a GE.D. in experience. You are so blinded by your far-left political fears that you can’t accept what all science has excepted…that global temperature have STOPPED WARMING: http://ktwop.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/global-temperature-anomaly.jpg

      2. Robert (Plainwell) says:

Hey Bill the truth will be realized soon.

    2. Mark (East Lansing) says:

      Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V

      1. Jack says:

        Don’t Know what that Is ! Is it A FUSE : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_Ae75dJI1M. ;-)

    3. Dan says:

Decide what you want and then attempt to prove it? Is that truly science?
I mean, really pick any point on your chart/graph and then seek to prove how that point even remotely stands up to reality.
It just points out that the lies are not any bigger. It is that they (the alarmists) will continue to lie because they continue to get away with it.
      PLAIN and SIMPLE!!

  8. Bobby (Ada) says:

GOLF THIS WEEKEND AGAIN!!! 2 WEEKENDS IN A ROW OF GOLF! KEEP IN COMIN! GOLF TIL JANUARY WOOOT! ;)

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

That is funny :) You are talking golf and I have been skiing for the last two weeks and there is no golf happening at any golf course North of Kent county!! Even the courses that are open in Kent county are pushing it right now. The greens are freezing solid every single night and the grass is not even growing at all! GOLF is out and skiing is in. I may not be golfing till May at this rate!

    2. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Golfers have been out here too! I need to get out and play.

    3. Rodey (Rockford) says:

      ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    4. steelie says:

      Good Day,

Indeed… I had a meeting last Monday afternoon out near Rivertown and the parking lot at Maple Hill GC was nearly full, at noon!

      Steelie

  9. Rocky (Rockford) says:

The mid range models are starting to come together and it is looking good for COLD and SNOW in West MI next week. I love it – FOX 17 is predicting 70 degrees for next Wednesday and it will not even be 50 degrees and then a day or two latter it will be SNOWING! Get ready GR!

    1. fixxxer says:

Lmao…if you think it will snow you really need to take your meds.

    2. suehelen says:

      Now you’re just being silly.

  10. SlimJim NW GR (1) says:

For this spring is was a rather nice day today. But for the year the warmest days still happened back in January. So we are still waiting for the first 60° day here in GR. The cold front has now gone thru and the temp here in Walker is now 41°. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Steffen at to days Whitecaps game. I had a chance to chat a little with him. While it was cool at the game tonight it was not the coldest nor the warmest opening day. And while the Whitecaps won tonight its hard to judge on how they will do. But they do have several of the Tigers top prospects (for a while anyway) BTW Bill thanks for the items you gave me and it was very nice meeting you.
    SlimJim

  11. Jack says:

Hear ye, Hear Ye, The Ole Clock on the Wall,Say it’s FRIDAY!! I’ve Had This on My Mind all Week. Here is The EASY BEATS doing FRIDAY ON MY MIND : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBJLoYd8xak. ;-) . ;-)

  12. Dan says:

Tigers home opener today! Go Tigers! Fister mow down those Yankees! Leyland pleasr leave Fister in

  13. Dan says:

*please leave Fister in if he is pitching well!

  14. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Talk about not facing reality and living in fantasy land! That describes the meteorologists over at Fox 17! What a joke – they are forecasting 70 degrees for next Wednesday! We have not even hot 60 degrees yet this season and 60 degrees is not in sight all next week, yet alone 70 degrees! Talk about warm weather HYPE – well this takes the cake!! Are they looking into a crystal ball? In fact we are still in line for plenty of COLD and SNOW by next weekend! Get ready people!!

    1. michigan won says:

      Rocky,

Shut up already. You sound like a complete idiot. “Winter” where “we” live has been over for weeks. Even those of us that like winter know it’s done with for the year. Stop bothering everybody with your childness.

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Wow, thanks for those profound comments! Totally worthless and thanks for listening baby!!

        1. michigan won says:

Says the poster child of worthlessness.

      2. Rocky (Rockford) says:

I am trying to figure out who is more ignorant you or fixxxer? It is a close match!

        1. michigan won says:

I’m sure you hear this all the time… but your priceless Rocky.

    2. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Fantastic upper 60′s possible by middle of the week. I love it. Plenty of needed rain and spring warmth for next week. I love it. Fantastic. Get used to it. Get ready people.!!!!!!

  15. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Tigers and Michigan… and hopefully some golf this weekend. It’s going to be a great spring weekend!

Sure enough, my neighbor was out water skiing last night. He said his dry suit keeps him pretty warm except for his face. Crazy guy!

Hit 57 yesterday, our 5th above average high in the past 8 days. Not bad. For records sake, these beautiful clear mornings are really hurting average temps because it’s been getting cold at night without any cloud insulation. But oh well, I’ll take the sun any day. Looking forward to thunderstorms next week.

    1. fixxxer says:

travis im mostly seeing 50′s for highs for us.

      1. Travis (Oakland County) says:

I’ll take upper 50′s and a couple 60′s for me next week. You’re not going to get summer weather in early April very often.

  16. Dan says:

Bo Blue! You must take down the Cuse tomorrow! They did not play great against Kansas. They did play great against Florida. They will need their A game against the Syracuse. Mitch McGary has been the man among boys.
Do they make into the championship? I say, yes they do!

  17. Dan says:

    OOPS! I mean GO Blue!!

  18. fixxxer says:

still not seeing any major warmups through the end of the month. Lets hope we take a turn for the better come may. im still thinking it will be about an average spring & summer this year.

  19. Dan says:

I thought we were looking at temps approaching 70 with a chance of Thunderstorms?

    1. fixxxer says:

i doubt it dan. still looks on the cool side. you guys knew we were due for one of these years sooner or later. hope im wrong.

  20. arcturus says:

It’s sad the trolls remain on this board sensationalizing their outlandish predictions, knowing full well their posts are designed to be inflammatory. I put the blame squarely on Steffen who, by his lack of action, is complicit in this trollish behavior. While he might disagree with censorship, clearly strong action needs to be taken to get this forum back on focus. I mean, how much worse can it already be?

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Wow take a chill pill and increase your dose fast! Are you related to fixxxer? Oh wait a minute you are fixxxer – I almost forgot!

      1. fixxxer says:

yeah rj because i have 20+ names on here. your about the biggest jackass ive seen on this board next to rob dale.

        1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Wow very immature and profound comments! Oh by the way you do not have 20 names, however you do have more than two names! COLD and SNOW rocks and this is the best Spring weather that we have had in many, many, many years! Thanks for listening and stop by again sometime!!

        2. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Rob Dale was very knowledgeable he just didn’t take any crap from anyone. He always had good data.

    2. fixxxer says:

this is a public blog, bill isn’t going to do anything unless there are threats on here.

      1. arcturus says:

There are plenty of moderated blogs. The good administrators know how to keep it focused including making unpopular decisions to the few malcontents for everyone else’s benefit. How many times have we heard how this blog has gone downhill?

        1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Wow you need to see a doctor very, very soon before it is too late!

  21. Dan says:

Oh and arcturus, you write as if you are innocent, REALLY?

    1. arcturus says:

Much more innocent though some would like to believe it’s worst only because of my position on global climate change. At least my posts are almost always accompanied by data pulled from somewhere, not some type of trollish declarative pulled out where the sun don’t shine.

      1. Dan says:

You may have a different view of climate change, interesting that the words changed there. Don’t you think, arcturus? Also, if you have data to support your statements, I would surely take a close look at it.
It makes sense to take an unbiased view of the data. Trouble is, the data is very influenced by the politics and much of it cannot yet be proven.
It doesn’t yet stand the test of time!

        1. arcturus says:

Since you’re not an expert either, that is of course your opinion and only that Dan. The important thing is that neither of us are name calling or doing incessant, repetitive, inflammatory troll baiting that is condoned by inaction from the powers that be.

      2. Bill Steffen says:

Yet you can’t argue with this: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

The climate models, as Dr. Judith Curry has stated, are “hopelessly flawed”.

  22. Nathan says:

Well it appears that the warm air wont make it far enough north next week! Oh well, we really need the rain to green things up!

    1. Nathan says:

Speaking of green things up, my profile picture is so last month! Maybe ill post one of my lightning pictures there :)

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

That is a GREAT picture and it helps remind everyone about the FANTASTIC skiing taking place in NW Lower MI! Thanks!

  23. Nathan says:

    Tornado siren!

    1. fixxxer says:

test siren you mean. that’s probably the only time you will hear it this season. we typically don’t get many tornado’s over here.

  24. Brian(Grandville) says:

It is getting a bit ridiculous on here lately with all the back and forth senseless comments, name calling, and people accusing others of having multiple names. Can we please just stop.

    1. fixxxer says:

things will get much better when rocky goes back into hibernation until the late fall.

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

you mean when fixxxxer stops whining and complaining about everyone and everything! Lets review some of his ridiculous comments – it is too cold, too wet, no storms, too windy, too snowy, not enough sun, etc, etc, etc! COLD and SNOW ROCKS!

    2. Brian(Grandville) says:

You guys this is exactly what I am talking about!

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

I suggest that you do not read our comments if you do like them! fixxxer is the biggest complainer and whiner since Debbie Downer took the stage!

  25. Mr. Negative says:

Windy, cold, storm free, with nothing but more cold on the way…as mentioned earlier.

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Now you are talking! That is the spirit!

  26. steelie says:

    Good Day,

First of all, perhaps a sensible solution: if you pretty much know ahead of time what a particular “poster” is going to post and you may find it annoying, why read it? Skip it, don’t respond and move on.

As for next week… FOX 17 is the outlier at this time. Both WOOD and the NWS I think are more sensible forecasts for next week. Also, the CPC is currently predicting near normal temps in both the 6-10 day and the 8-14 day. It is also predicting some cool weather to our West. We might get a bump into the upper 50s early next week before cooling back down to perhaps the upper 40s to near 50 late in the week, which if I remember correctly, is pretty average as in not unusual. Yet somehow I can’t help but think April might come in a bit below normal at this time. We will see…
