Cool Sunday/Monday

Tulips windmill island Jack Martin  Picture is tulips at Windmill Is. yesterday…from Jack Martin.  See it full screen.  The timing on the tulips this year has been just right.  The 12Z data is coming in.  The best chance of rain looks like late Thurs. into Thurs. night.  Most of Friday and most of Saturday will be dry.  It looks good for the Riverbank Run (50s at the start and fairly light winds early).  Wednesday’s Volksparade (all parades are at 2 PM) will likely be dry.  There is a chance of a shower for the Kinderparade on Tues.  I’d advise Tulip Time that if it’s dry, get the parade started on time or a couple minutes early.  The chance of rain will increase as we head through the afternoon.  Saturday’s Musikparade looks cool, northwest wind at 10-20, maybe upper 50s…chance of a shower, but only a chance, it could still be dry.  The overnight GFS-plot takes the G.R. temperature to 27 Monday AM.  It gives G.R. a high of 46 on Sunday and 53 on Monday.  The European has a 2 AM temperature of 34.7 for G.R. Monday AM.  That would give us a low around 32.  WeatherBell Meteorologist Joe Bastardi says:  “…possible record cold Sunday and Monday  into  areas that if it occurs, would have another fruit tree disaster on their hands ( apples got hammered last year).”  I’m not that alarmist right now…we may very well have a 5 mph west wind Monday AM.  I’m just saying frost/freeze is a concern.  The European doesn’t print out much rain now…just 0.01″ Weds. PM and 0.02″ Thursday.   If the Euro is right, it’s not possible that we could see a snowflake mix in with a few raindrops Sunday.  It’ll be interesting to see what the morning models say.  In any case, hold off on the frost sensitive plants unless you have a way of protecting them.  The best chance of frost/freeze Monday will be inland and northeast of G.R.    Also, the snow cover is shrinking in the U.P.   Here’s the webcam from Krupp’s Resort.  A lot of the lakes up there are still ice-covered.   Atlantic Mine was down to 4″ on the ground this AM.   Also:  The high temp for Vostok Station, Antarctica, for the past 24 hours has been -99 F.

As cold as it was just last month I would not be all that surprised if we see some snow in parts of Michigan yet this spring/summer. And yes if you value your plants and can not cover them do not plant yet. I will hold off until at least May 20th before planting this year. Looks like the “3 chilly saints” will be just that this year!

Yup! Watched it last night, pretty awesome. Wish we could get some northern light shows down here sometime. I check the solar activity every day, but just doesn’t seem to be much of anything this cycle.

My son and husband went to Florida and did trophy bass fishing guided tour, and they caught 64 fish in 6hrs of their tour, they hardly had time to get the camera out to capture the fish before another hit the line, my son was in his glory!! NOT looking forward to the cool down but it is what it is just take it as it comes.
