volksparade   Today is the Volksparade at Tulip Time in Holland.  It’s the first of the 3 big parades.  The chance of rain at the parade is only 15%.  The odds are it won’t rain at all during the parades today and tomorrow, but the better chance of rain will come later in the day each day, so my advice would be to start the parades on time.  The weather should be partly cloudy and in the low-mid 70s, very pleasant.  The tulips and blossoms (Bradford Pear trees downtown) are looking very good this year.  I’ve got a little Dutch in me…my great, great grandfather Busscher came from Almelo.  I think the rain holds off until after the Kinderparade tomorrow, but rain is likely Thurs. evening/night.   Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far in the Netherlands.  High temperatures Monday included 69 at Rotterdam, 74 at Gronigen and DeBilt and 75 at Amsterdam.

The European model overnight run gives G.R. two more days in the 70s with 0.01″ rain this PM, then 0.58″ of rain Thurs. night, and another 0.01″ Saturday with the cool front.  The Euro. give G.R. highs only in the low 50s Sunday (850 mb. temp. goes to -5.3C) and low-mid 30s early Monday.    The GFS plot would give G.R. 0.06″ of rain this PM, 0.45″ Thurs. night and 0.01″ Saturday PM.  It also takes 850 mb. temps. to -5C and gives us low-mid 30s Monday AM.   NAM model rainfall for this PM:  .09″ Lansing, 0.12″ Jackson, 0.15″ Pontiac, 0.04″ Big Rapids…and rainfall Thurs. night:  .89″ Lansing, .26″ Muskegon, 1.14″ Kalamazoo, 0.88″ Jackson, 1.11″ Pontiac, 0.17″ Big Rapids, 0.26″ Mt. Pleasant, 1.10″ S .Haven, 0.02″ Ludington.

Also:  Montreal, Canada is 14.9 deg. warmer than average for the first 7 days of May, but they have not broken any high temperature records.   Atlanta has reached 80 degrees this year so far.  Through May 7th, they had reached 80 thirty-seven times last year.  Barrow, Alaska reached 30F on Sunday, the first day up to 30 since 10/27/12.  Barrow gets 24-hours of daylight now.  Click here to see the webcam at Barrow…it’ll show light 24 hours a day.

Heard that every province in Canada except one had new record high temperature yesterday. Coast to coast warmth up there.

Looks like no frost for me:

At this time, warm and potentially wet ground combined with displacement of center of high pressure over Missouri leads to very low confidence in frost formation. Will therefore move forward with forecast temperatures in the low 30s
    without a mention of frost.

And then back close to 80 by Wednesday again says NWS.

Heard on the tv that those cars usually are bringing drugs around from place to place. This should be investigated because I heard tulip time is about tulip flowers not pot flowers. Hippy people will just do whatever they want. They smell bad and are dangerous and high. Pot is a rotten drug that kills tons of people and makes people dumb. Glad the weather is nice during these rotten and dangerous times. Thanks bill!

    1. INDY says:

Pot Kills Tons Of People lolololololo, More like alcohol Kills tons of people!! Clarence u should’nt Drink!! INDYY……

      1. Clarence says:

Pot kills people every day all day. It’s worse than bad fast food bc then you end up doing both. I drink because my son is always smoking pot and finding bad people like you on the Facebook. My wife is depressed because our son does all of it. It’s a nice day because of bills weather forecast but instead my son skips school to be with all the dumb losers who do pot. You prob are one of them Indy. You always write your name at the end of everything because pot has probably fried your tiny brain and so you can remember that you wrote it when you are not high.

        1. INDY says:

Fact ….Mean Green helps people!!! Clarence watch u say about people u don’t know lightning will strike!! Have a high day,,,,,INDYY…..

        2. Ryan (Algoma) says:

Man, your life sounds awful. You related to Fixxxer?

        3. Dan says:

Clarence: I’m not defending pot or its use. However, what about those people who have a horrible disease or the people that are so anxious that they cannot even get through the next few minutes?
Don’t you think, under a Doctor’s care that it is good for them to have access to this? Indy’s got you on this one. Drunk drivers kill way more people than pot does. You should look up the stats!

    2. Rad (Jenison/Hudsonville ) says:

Hippy people will just do whatever they want. They smell bad and are dangerous and high. Thats RED NECK AS HELL!!

  3. Barb says:

Another beautiful, cloudless day here in northern Michigan. Still think there will be frost early next week, Bill? northern Mich. also?

  4. Lisa (Caledonia) says:

Bill, Wunderground has had 90s on the long term for the middle of next week for several days now. Are you seeing anything to support that?

    1. Cort S. says:

Keep in mind that some of these sites like The Weather Channel, Accu#$%^! and possibly Weather Underground have little to no human involvement in the forecasts, especially the long-range. For forecasts with human involvement, you want to get them from your neighborhood TV meteorologists or the NWS.

That being said, I’ve had my eye on the European model for the past couple of days. After the shot of cold air this weekend, it has been aggressive in bringing back warm/hot air by the middle of next week. In fact, the last run of the European brings 850 mb temperatures (approximately 1 mile above the ground) of 18 Celsius into Michigan on Wednesday. This would be the warmest air so far this year, and assuming full sunshine, it would support temperatures at the ground into at least the upper 80s Fahrenheit for Wednesday. But the Euro model only gives us that hot air for one day. After that, it keeps us in warm but more comfortable temperatures.

If the warm air does come screaming into Michigan during the middle of next week, sure, I think 90 is a possibility. But a week in advance, a 90-degree temperature forecast is really sticking your neck out.

      1. Cort S. says:

Storm Team 8′s current philosophy for next Wednesday is rain and upper 70s. That would mean that the hottest air would stay aloft and not mix down to the ground. But such a rapid surge of warm air at 850 mb may be a recipe for elevated thunderstorms. Sounds like we have something fun for us weather geeks to pay attention to.

        1. INDY says:

80′s next week Cort and for Mothers day highs in the 60′s now Bill will be changing his 52 on Sunday….Stay warm INDYY….

        2. Lisa (Caledonia) says:

          I’d love a good thunderstorm!

      2. Lisa (Caledonia) says:

I agree with you about TWC, (un)Accuweather, and WG. :) I never even check the first two. WG is somewhat interesting because they post information from people’s backyard weather stations. I figured there would be someone on here who would have more information about next week! :)

  5. DF (SE Mich) says:

Records across the US the last 7 days. Lots of record lows even though it has been nice here.

  6. Paul says:

It’s nice to see a governor that solves problems and not one that creates them.

    1. Mark (East Lansing) says:

      Chris Christie’s lap band surgery?

    2. Paul says:

Mark, apparently you weren’t around from 2003-2011 when we had the prostitute as governor. I wonder if bdbc (Bill’s Blog resident cross-dresser) took her street corner? lol
