It’s cold already up here in Cheboygan. I’m not going to plant until tomorrow since we’ll likely get frost tonight. Mosquitoes are THICK up here! I don’t have any to speak of in GR.

I am back in the beautiful west side :) . I went on a 25 mile bike ride on the trails and roads of Wyoming and Kentwood. Very nice out today!

  9. Tyler says:

The U.P. gets two seasons. Winter and winter’s coming lol. The Lower Peninsula at least south of Mount Pleasant gets all 4 seasons but summers are very warm in places like Lansing, Detroit and Grand Rapids. You guys get about 5 months of summer.

    1. michael g (SE GR) says:

It will have to run from June through October here to be 5 months long this year. No summer yet. Not that I’m complaining though. Great running weather for the last 6 weeks or so.

      1. Irish coffee says:

I dunno…seems like summer started circa May 1 to me- temps > +4 ABOVE avg so far(May)…nearly 70% sun…10 days AOA 80+…several days nearly TOO HOT to run(but we runners WILL run no matter the wx~!:)

  10. michael g (SE GR) says:

Can’t vouch for the accuracy of my grandma’s thermometer, but right at the lake between Holland and Port Sheldon, it showed a high of 55 today, and between 3 and 7 pm, the temp was right around 52* with a NNW wind around 10-15 mph. Chilly!

It was a rare summer day when you could actually see the horizon where the water meets the sky, no haze at all. Waves between 1 and 2 feet, and a good number of sailboats and fishing boats out. No jet skis though, nice and quiet.

  11. Slimjim says:

We are inLinwood (just north of Bay City) like the rest of lower Michigan today was a nice but cool day. One thing that caught me off guard is all the flooding around here. A part of the camp ground at the Bay City state park is flooded and so are some of the fields near the smaller rivers and the park on the river in Midland is well flooded.

  12. Tyler says:

You guys had a nice spring down there though this year. The seasonal calendar down in Grand Rapids is Summer starts June 1st and goes till at least November. Fall is from November till well into January. Winter is very short from Mid January till early March. Spring is from early March till early June. Summer is the longest season 4 months or more.

    1. michael g (SE GR) says:

Not sure how summer weather is defined in the UP, but in GR our average November has high of 45*, we have 18 days below freezing, and get 8″ of snow. Not what I consider “summer weather”.

      1. michael g (SE GR) says:

Looks like historically speaking, Marquette is a whopping 8* colder with about 9″ more snow normally in November. That is truly the difference between summer and winter.

    2. michael g (SE GR) says:

First 10 days of March down here this year, average high, 37*, low 22*. Time for spring planting!!

      1. michael g (SE GR) says:

Had a hard freeze 64 days after March 10 on May 13 at 29*.

  13. michael g (SE GR) says:

Refuting global warming hysteria and regional climate bias daily, for no money, and signing off for the night. Yours truly…..

  14. Dan says:

Absolutely PERFECT WEATHER! Maybe, a tad cool but, not bad! In fact, I would take this weather all summer long!!!

  15. Clarence says:

Happy Memorial Day to those soldiers who aren’t just bad people who played too many video games with fake guns and needed to do it for real. I love this country and am happy that there are still some soldiers who have brains and defend our country, and not just a bunch of mess ups like my son who need war to fix their terrible lives
