thermometer    WOW – look at the Heat Burst they had in Kearney, NE last night.  Check out the weather observations.   At 12:55 PM it’s calm, fair, 75 degrees and the humidity is 74%.  Twenty minutes later they report a thunderstorm and the temperature is up 2 degrees to 77, the dew point is 68 and the wind is SW 9.  Twenty minutes after that, the wind is SW at 29 G. 35..the temperature has shot up 7 degrees to 84 and the dew point drops to 54.  The humidity has plunged from 74% to 33%.  We advance another 20 minutes and the wind is now west at 26, gusting to 54 mph.  The temperature continues to rise to 88 and the humidity is now down to 25%.  Twenty minutes later the wind is NW 21 G 47 – add another 20 minutes and the wind is now north at 10 mph  with gusts to 18 mph…and twenty minutes after that, the wind has flipped from north to south at 17 mph gusting to 25 mph and the temperature is up to 90 at 3 AM!    But wait!   At 3:15 AM, the temperature is up to 97 and the south wind is now gusting over 50 mph!  The humidity is down to 16%!   Here’s more on the heat burst from the National Weather Service, which appears to have affected a relatively large area of central Nebraska.

I “wish” it was 97 degrees here-but-this is Not the Summer for it. We are fortunate if we see 80 degrees for a day or two. So far-disappointing Summer! :)

Wow, Bill – I’ll have to get my camera from home because I *think* I recently took a picture of noctilucent clouds after a sunset and didn’t realize what it was?? BRB!

    1. GunLakeDeb says:

OK – I looked, and technically, what I took a picture of was a gap between lower clouds showing well-lit-by-the-setting-sun upper clouds.

I think I drove through there on the way to Las Vegas last March. It is like in the central part of the state if I remember right. When I was there in Mid March driving through it was in the upper 30′s and a damp cold.

Best summer weather in years, but would be better without the six-legged plague buzzing around at all hours. I will be happy without a single 90F day. Low 80s here and there to warm up the big lake works for me.

  18. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Keep the below average temps rolling. I love the cool temps. Keep the temps in the 70′s all summer baby! ROCK N ROLL will never die!!

    Storm free…

I was one of the lucky ones that drove through this on hwy 80, the sudden 55 mph winds that carried debris and dust made it feel like a tornado was close by. Not something I want to experience again (although kinda cool that I got to experience a rare weather phenomenon) it was very warm, but the wind and dirt was the scary part. Thanks Nebraska!
