We had friends at the cottage from Minnesota. Went to Mackinaw Island and had a great time…some high clouds with sporadic sun and temps in the 60s. It started to sprinkle as we were headed back from Mackinaw to Cheboygan.

  3. Brian(Grandville) says:

Bill, keep the rain away from Comerica Park Monday, I’m going to the game.

    1. fixxxer says:

Good luck with that. Seems alot of rain and cooler weather is the pattern.

      1. Brian(Grandville) says:

I would rather sit in the rain, than have sweat running down my face sitting in the scorching sun any day. And yes, this summer so far has been a complete 180 from last year. :)

  31. Wendi says:

We just had something crazy happen here in Holland. We live across from the corner of Felch and 120th on the north side of Holland. It was raining and storming when all of a sudden there was a really load roar and lots of noise, scared me and my daughter out of a sound sleep. My husband went outside after it calmed down to see how badly my hanging baskets were damaged, and we have trees down and some of our stuff (lawn chairs, the basket off the riding lawn mower) had been thrown all over the neighborhood, broke the neighbors mailbox, chairs are in pieces. It was really scary, like a 10 second tornado. can that happen?

    1. Aaron says:

Wendi, this was probably just really strong wind or straight line winds. There was no reports of rotation at all, and torandos rarely only last 10 seconds. I hope everything is fixed and everyone is safe.

      June 16, 2013 at 1:08 p.m.

      Good Afternoon,
I just read your comment and yes we couldn’t believe the amount of damage we had received here in Zeeland. We woke up to the sudden thunder at about 12:30 a.m. and thought nothing of it that it was just another strong storm rolling through the town into Grand Rapids. When we woke to tree limbs down across streets and drove through the back streets on Lindy and Mc Kinley, Wow some of the houses that have had trees fall on them and some of the trees and bushes have been uprooted. There was a massive amount of wind damage here in Zeeland. My husband had to call State Farm Insurance and make a claim on his car damage we had received in the Saturday Night. Hopefully everyone was not hurt just material things we as a neighborhood can fix back up and lend a helping hand if you see anyone that needs help.

  32. Kevin (Marshall) says:

Will that long train of storms running from Milwalkee ever die out? It’s been there for over 4 hours!

  33. Jerry hoag says:

Well of course, like usual now for ummmmmmmm like the past 3 or 4 years now, Grand Rapids has pretty much missed out on any decent type of storm. I do see that there is a Special Weather Bulletion for areas South and East of us, Like usual AGAIN!!! Come on Mother Nature give us something to write home about that last more than 5 to 10 minutes, doesn’t include down pours of rain and slim lightning and bleek thunder!! Give us some real crashing thunder, very vivid lightning, very strong wind and some tornadoes (but in open feilds) so no damage is done in the city. Something that we can write about. None of this , BUBBLE crap, that keeps popping the top of these storms from doing a good show for us Grand Rapids people!!! Whose all with me on this??????? Maybe we can do a storm dance, a bubble popping dance, or something. Just throw ideas out there so we can get some exciting weather here in Grand Rapids, FINALLY!!!

  34. fred says:

Yea…….try living through another DEEE–ROSSSHHHAA…..That was real fun.
What is really sad is WOOD’s whole 10PM newscast…..tats of a missing woman’s upper thigh…………err arm….unintelligable/garbled attempts at reading the short news stories….storms tracked to hit by 4AM….change station and FOX is saying 2AM…………storms hit at 1AM in walker. that whole tracking thing is, of course a TV ploy. Bitched to Bill about it previously. Nobody buys it Bill. Come on, you’re better than those gimmicks.

    1. Bill Steffen says:

I didn’t see the 10 PM news…I switched to the NHL game when the Griffins game ended. The “tracking tool” is a big favorite of the consultants, so we use it a lot. When you have precipitation moving at a constant speed, it works fine. When that’s not the case, you have to qualify. I don’t remember exactly what was on radar at 10 PM, but I would have said, “Here’s what’s out there now…the showers near Madison track to G.R. at 4 AM, but I expect more showers and storms to develop ahead those showers and move into West Michigan around midnight, give or take an hour.” Once again, the heaviest rain was Muskegon/Ottawa/Kent. Parts of Allegan, Barry and S. Oceana Co. and S. Newaygo Co. also had over 1″ of rain.

If you read my blog yesterday, I said the rain would be midnight to 9 am (last shower clearing Hillsdale before 9 AM – that’s the east edge of the viewing area, though we have quite a few blog readers from outside the viewing area). The low level jet often gets cranked up after sunset, so I expected a lot more activity than the showers that were out toward Madison toward the evening.

  35. Dan says:

You really can’t beat this weather! It started out cloudy yesterday and it only just sprinkled lightly (84th/ 131) Then, the sun came out! Today, its starting out cloudy and it is supposed to get nice! HAPPY FATHER’S DAY ALL!
Next week is supposed to be nice with a warm up into the upper 80s by Saturday!

  36. INDY says:

Yeaa Happy Fathers day dads!!! Going to be a nice one !!!! Get outside and play maybe Help fixxer find his dad!! INDYY..

  37. Cort S. says:

lol… just reading these comments after the fact. You guys collectively never seem to be happy with what nature gives you… ever! Can’t win! ;) You simultaneously want a good storm that’s not too destructive, but a “really nice” garden variety thunderstorm that covers 90% of the area with good lightning and thunder just isn’t quite enough. lol, you guys crack me up. :)

      1. Skot says:

Agreed…..Thats why we love the weather though. Always hoping, never happening. Watching the sky lightening move in last night outside, when it suddenly slowed to nothing, I knew the bubble was there so I went to bed. Always next time.

    1. INDY says:

YEAAAA Fixxers a IDIOT on this blog…..INDYY..

      1. Skot says:

Happy Fodder’s Day INDY. From the YARDofWEEDS!!!!!

      2. Cort S. says:

This wasn’t even directed at fixx, just the blog collective. It does look like a beautiful Father’s Day too. Bonus.

  38. GunLakeDeb says:

I was flabbergasted to see an inch of rain in the gauge this morning!! It came quietly – at 1:30-ish, I woke up and saw lightning in the distance – then fell asleep and never heard any extreme rain; it must have just come straight down for quite a while…LOL!

  39. mr. negative says:

Enough already…SE GR rain gauge collected 1.7 inches over night. Looks like we’re now a below avg temp, rain forest…wonderful.
