meso waterspout Click the image to enlarge or click here.   3:35 PM Sunday – There’s a meso-discussion out now on the possibility of severe weather in SE Wisconsin, N. Illinois and western Lake Michigan.   SPC says:  “INITIATION ZONE ALONG THE OUTFLOW TO MOVE TOWARD/INTO LK MI OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS…THIS MAY MITIGATE NEED FOR A WW ACROSS ERN WI AS WELL.”   So far, strong, but generally not severe storms have been moving across much of Illinois (see radar thread below)  This is the hottest day of 2013 over much of Lower Michigan – 88 at 3 PM in G.R., 89 in Kalamazoo.  It’s cooler near Lake Michigan with 80 at the Ludington Airport and  81 at the airports in Holland and S. Haven.  The Muskegon Beach air temperature is 71.2 and the S. Haven beach temperature is 74.6.  The mid-Lake Michigan buoy shows (at 3:35 PM) an air temp. of 62.2 and a water temp. of 55.2.   With a due south wind coming down the length of Lake Michigan, Manistique is 60 degrees with fog and Escanaba (which will be “in da moonlight” tonight is just 64.    The picture on the right (from WDSU) is a waterspout near Grand Isle, LA.  Click here for video and pics. of the waterspout.

Ann Thompson just said on TWC that lakes Michingan and Huron set all time record low levels because of warm water evaporation. When did that happen?

    1. Kevin(Rockford) says:

Lowest level in Lake Michigan was in June of 1964

    2. Jack says:

      TWC….SUCKS!!! ;-)

    3. Russ C. says:

That is one clueless lady that is for sure.

      1. GunLakeDeb says:

We just need to invite her for a swim in that nice warm water! ROFL!!!

    4. Brent - Zeeland says:

According to Bill’s Blog on Feb. 10, 2013, the US Army Corp of Engineers recorded a Lake Michigan water level of 576.02. This was the lowest average recorded since 1918.

    5. Bill Steffen says:

In a sense, this is old information. The lake is now a foot higher than the water level of June 1964. Lake Superior had the 2nd biggest spring rise ever. They’re trying to link this to “global warming”, but if they were honest, they’d have to unlink it as the water level rises again (which it is doing).

  9. Slimjim says:

I had the first 90 day here (92) we may see one or maybe two more before we cool down. And that cool down looks like it may last thru the 4th of July.

  17. GunLakeDeb says:

It was a perfect Gun Lake weekend – the lake was busy! While I was sitting on the deck (early afternoon), I noticed some odd-looking high clouds they looked like corduroy! Narrow, perfectly-parallel lines of clouds – maybe 30 or so lines in all?? Did anyone else see them?

    1. GunLakeDeb says:

I think they were some form of cirrocumulus??

        1. Cort S. says:

Think of it like ripples in a pond when you throw a stone into it, only the “pond” is upside-down and is at the top of the troposphere (where cumulonimbus anvils form). A storm updraft, probably from one of those storms in IL/IN/OH today, had a lot of upward momentum and when it reached the top of the troposphere, but its momentum helped it punch through a little bit higher than the anvil layer before it was forced to sink back into the anvil. In the right conditions, you can get ripple-like waves that emanate out from it over a long distance. And if there is just the right amount of moisture in the layer where the waves are, clouds can form in the wave crests.

        2. Jack says:

Wow Awesome Pic. From Charles ( aka chuck) Thanks !!! Cort nice Explanation as Well as Usual in “Layman” Terms. I have witnessed clouds ( waves) like These, and Each Wave was a Small Rainbow!! Our GOD’S Creation at its BEST….Indeed…. God Bless, and stay Cued…. ;-)

        3. Yes indeed, these were gravity waves. You can see them here on this collection of visible satellite images I put together with my photo:

Thanks for the compliments folks! It was a real treat to photograph these. Thanks also for the link mention, Cort!

  18. Travis (Oakland County) says:

So hot today! Still 85 degrees at 9:30. Golfing 18 was probably not the best idea ha

WDIV has me in the 80′s through at least next Sunday and then WXYZ is showing mainly 75-80 for the week of the 4th… perfect!

    1. Brian(Grandville) says:

      That would be perfect.

  19. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Looks like some storms are creeping into SE Mich… we had some storms around me yesterday, but I stayed dry. See what happens with these ones. Probably not too much action.

  20. Brian(Grandville) says:

Has anyone else noticed a bit of sap dripping off the oak trees. I’ve never seen that before, and it’s all over my deck.

    1. Jack says:

NOPE…But I did Find a Little Helpful…INFO. 4 U BRIAN::::: How To Remove Sap From Wood (including decks and wooden patio furniture)

Try applying non-diluted Murphy’s Oil Soap with a mop (large area) or pour directly onto the affected surface. Allow the soap to sit for 15 minutes before scrubbing it clean with a soft brush. Rinse and allow to dry. Supposedly, this method works best on sealed wood. :-)

  21. Jack says:

WOW….Just came in From My Back PORCH…..Ton’s of LIGHTNING ( BUGS)…. Out 2~NITE…. Love those Little Buggers…LOL. ;-)

    1. Mike (Mattawan) says:

    2. Jerry hoag says:

  24. Jerry hoag says:

  25. INDY says:

    Fixxer is a IDIOT on Bill’s blog…..INDYY

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Come on guys, Fixxxer is fixxxer we all know that and how he is, seriously it’s starting to get old now, the name calling, the bashing, I’ve noticed he’s been trying not to lash out even when you all have started it like now, it’s like you are trying to stir the pot. Yes he complains oh well, we all do, some more than others but for once I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but you guys have been taking away from the blog with always mentioning Fixxxer and insulting him and calling him names when he hasn’t even posted or complained. This is BILLS BLOG, NOT Indy’s, Jerry’s , Jack’s, mine, or anyone elses trying to take over it’s BILLS BLOG! So please, rather we like Fixxxer or not get annoyed by him, he is who he is as you all are who you all are. Yes I’ve been annoyed by him and he’s rattled my cage but not so much any more as some have by starting this. There is enough haters in this world, PLEASE don’t be another one. We come on here for mutual reasons, LOVE or HATE of weather, not each other. Just my honest opinion. No one is right here, but enough is enough bring BILLS BLOG back to they way it was. STOP THE INSULTS PLEASE!

      1. Jerry hoag says:

Swartz, okay I hear your plea!! I will do that for you!! I apologize for my roodness on here towards Fixxer!!!! As you say I actually don’t know the guy so whom am I to judge, right?!!?! There is only one judge in the world and that is GOD!! So also GOD please forgive me for bashing Fixxer on here. On Bill’s blog for the weather!! This is so true let’s all bring back the good ole weather blog full of weather stats and whatever else has to do with the weather!!

Fixxer, if you see this. Please accept my apologies!!???!! I am sorry for saying those things about you and I don’t even know who you are! So again I am so sorry! Please forgive me???

Thank you!! And GOD bless everyone on Bill’s blog today! Enjoy this Hot and Humid weather!

        1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Thank you Jerry, you’ve earned my respect and yes it’s easy to get pulled in and get involved but you are right there is only 1 true Judge and any time, any day, any hour will be our judgment time with the almighty. One of the commandments is “Love Thy Neighbor as yourself,” rather we agree or disagree. The HATRED on this blog has been increasing and it’s getting to much, again I state we are adults kids come on here to learn and read about the weather and what do they see?? ONLINE BULLYING what kind of example are we showing these kids, they are our future and if we want to bring peace in this world we need to show them by our moral example. I’ve been guilty of getting sucked into the bashing and getting easily frustrated but with my husband overseas, seeing that horrific cargo plane crash in Bagram with his very eyes on one of those buses, and going through a small house fire myself, you just have to step back and evaluate things and yourself and life and how you want to conduct yourself. Life is short, rather we like someone or not, or agree with them or not, they are human they deserve dignity and respect they may have a family who reads this, their kids and to see their mom/dad being bashed and name called, not cool! I’ve been quiet about it, but I’ve noticed how some just without instigation from Fixxx have to bring it up and stir things up and try to get others to join in, I will not do that again. We don’t know him, his situation, his life, his reasons for the way he is, as you said, whom are we to judge. As Christ said when people were throwing stones at the prostitute “Yee without sin be the 1st to case a stone.” AMEN! Not back to the program and enjoy Gods gift of beautiful weather or even lousy weather because where there is rain there will be sun and vise verse. So let’s bring peace back to BILLS BLOG!

      2. Scott (robinson twsp) says:

I said that awhile back. It’s actually not Fixx messing it up. Its everyone trying to get him started. He has calmed down since the new job. I do still blame him for the bubble though. :)

        1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

I’ve noticed as well but certain people just keep stirring and stirring. The name calling and bashing just has to STOP, again to much haters in this world today, can’t we just all get along in our little “Bubble”. I’ve learned to agree to disagree and not get caught up in it. Life is to short to try to make others feel miserable, regardless! I’ve had to re-evaluate myself and step back, to me this is now online bullying, what are we teaching our kids as adults if we are bullying each other even if we are adults??? Just saying.

      3. Jack says:

Agree…WE Are BILLS BLOG ! We are FAMILY ! FIXXXER ….I apologize . Stay CUED…YE ALL, and GOD BLESS….BILLS BLOGGERS. ;-)

      4. Dan says:

Great Points, Swatz! I know, I have been VERY critical of the fixxxer! I certainly never meant offense! I was merely only trying to discuss his posts with him. However, I was too HARSH! I will tell you and all others, I’m sorry! I know, there is nobody perfect here. Well, there is ONE who is perfect and without HIM we are ALL truly SUNK! With HIM, we can all LEARN how to get along!

        1. Jack says:

          Amen….Bro. Dan !,,,

        2. Dan says:

          Sorry fixxxer!

  26. Dan says:

Awesome day! Love this weather! if you notice they keep extending the heat and humidity by a day or two. No complaints here! Enjoying the summer! How about those Tigers!?
