Gas Price Going Up

gas prices

Looks like gas prices are going up again.  Here’s the latest from Ed:  “Wednesday, July 10, 2013, 9:00PM:  Just updated my spreadsheet.  Oil up to $106.52 a barrel.  It was $94 two weeks ago.  NYMEX gas bubbling up in reaction — 26 cents more than July 1.  Even though we had one price hike this week, I wouldn’t be surprised to see another one in the next 36 hours, with a new price in the $3.79-$3.89 range.  That’s a prediction. –Ed Aboufadel

Also, check out the Northern Lights in the U.P. last night at Lake Superior.

Just stay at 4 dollars and KEEP it there. Sick of living my life around counting pennies.!!!

    1. Don says:

Gas prices have jumped 60 cents in the last 5 days in northwest indiana

  2. Gump says:

I still tell people not to get too worked up over gas prices. A 25 cent gas hike only adds up to an extra $4 at the pump, which honestly is not the end of the world.

    1. Barry in Zeeland says:

Except when you have 3 vehicles, plus the 2 kids cars, plus the mowers, plus the seadoos, plus the chainsaws, plus anything else around that needs gas. Ends up being a bit more than $4. Oh yeah, and we have to drive over 500 miles a week for therapy for our youngest. That makes even a 25 cent hike quite a bit.

      1. mike says:

sounds like a rough life with 5 vehicles total and seadoos damn the rough life we americans live.

  3. Bryan says:

went to 3.85 in Haslett, MI (Speedway on M-78)The new Meijer and Admiral are still at 3.55

  4. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Yup, got gas around 10am at Cedar Meijer for $3.57/gal and was in there for 1hr and it jumped up to $3.89

  5. Jack says:

    PURE GREED!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ F- EM…..

    1. DF (SE Mich) says:

… or invest in oil at the correct time :)

    2. BJ says:

I couldn’t agree with all the post! Obama, come back down here to the real world, where we don’t even make it paycheck to paycheck! Not only the gas prices go up but the groceries go up also. Its a domino effect!! The socialist Obama wants to take over freedom!

      1. Yup (Grandville) says:

        Lol wut

  6. Mindy says:

Thanks to GREEDWAY, our prices spike up and down more so than other states!!! You can blame GREEDWAY and their MONOPOLY on our states big up and down price Spikes!!! When wintering in FL, you never have a 20-30 cent price jump, only a few penny’s either up or down!!!!

    1. DM says:

Speedway is a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum and does business throughout the South as well as the Midwest. Hasn’t been an independent Michigan company since 1958…

  7. Dan says:

How can they justify an increase of 20-30 dollars per barrel of oil in a couple of weeks? It is a complete fleecing of America!!! We need to drill on American soil. We are way too dependent on foreign oil! They have complete control.
Please , Obama get your head into this issue and deal with it straight on!
You seem to be more interested in the “royalty/celebrity” of being President.
How can people support him? How about opening the reserves for starters? I know, they (politicians) cannot possibly relate to people who live paycheck to paycheck!

    1. Jack says:

AGREE!!!! Sorry can’t RESIST, This OLD CUE::: Enjoy…. DAN, and Others !!! Stay Cued, and God Bless Y’all . ;-)

    2. michael g (SE GR) says:

Obama thinks gas prices aren’t high enough. Need $7 or $8 gas to make people change their habits and save the planet from the mythological ravages of global warming.

      1. Jack says:

        You mean..OBUMMER!!!!! ;-)

    3. Brad says:

Hyperbole much? Why should we open the strategic reserves?

      1. Brian(Grandville) says:

Yes Brad, there is no need to do that, at this time. What we do need to do is explore, and use what resources are available to us (under our own soil). We also need to consider what’s been working for us for over a century now, and how we still depend on it every day. Not just for our daily commutes.

      2. Mark (East Lansing) says:

Been there, done that. Did nothing.

    4. Mark (East Lansing) says:

I believe I read that the USA is now producing more oil than ever. The gas tax has not risen so this has nothing to do with this administration. This is capitalism, nothing more.

        1. Jack says:

Bill, I Love That Correlation !! The Way I Read It, The Better The Music , The Better The Oil Production !! Just goes To Show, Rock Music, ain’t What Used To BE! SO…..Stay CUED, My Friends… !!!! ;-)

        2. Mark (East Lansing) says:

Oops, not more than ever. I wasn’t around in the good ‘ole days. Interesting that the US oil production now is the highest it’s been since 1998. Now if I can only remember who was in the White House between 1998 and the current administration…..

      1. Brian(Grandville) says:

Capitalism is what built this country. Socialism will be it’s demise. There are currently more people on government assistance, than there are people employed in this country right now. Not a good number.

        1. Stacsh says:

If only someone’s policies in the 2000′s somehow helped this stat. What’s congress doing?????

        2. Mark (East Lansing) says:

Congress is doing little, if anything about anything. They are the most corrupt part of the Federal government.

        3. Bill Steffen says:

The bills are written by underlings…heavily influenced by lobbyists and the Senators can’t and don’t even read the bills they vote on.

  8. Jack says:

ADD This 2 My Last COMMENT , If Ya PLEASE , BILL !!!! .? :-)

  9. Mindy says:

You want to talk about Congress. If BLOCKING Republican House would get off their ass and START DOING THEIR JOB!!…….Hold them ACCOUNTABLE in 2014!!!

    1. Bill Steffen says:

What has the House blocked? The House has passed many bills that the Senate hasn’t taken up and they have made changes to Senate bills and sent them back to the Senate for Conference Committee. Obama had 60 votes in the Senate and a significant majority in the House during his first two years. He could have passed anything he wanted. The election of 2010 came about not because of Republicans, but because independents voted Republican and many Democrats didn’t vote. There’s a lot of issues where a significant majority of voters side with Republicans (build the Keystone Pipeline, strengthen border security).

  10. Mindy says:

Hold on !!! who’s blocking Obama’s Job’s initiative bill, Immigration reform, Small Business Job’s Act, Political Ad disclosure bill, Tax on Co. that ship Job’s overseas!! I could type all day bill that are Blocked by Republicans. At the State level, conservative Nuts taking away Women’s rights!!! telling me i have to do this…….It’s my body not yours!!!! conservatives want less government!!! What a Joke!! Strip away VOTING RIGHTS because they can’t win general election anymore!! I have a RIGHT to my OPINION !!!!!!

    1. Bill Steffen says:

Again…all of that could have been passed easily in the first 2 years when he had large majorities in both houses of Congress. The House has passed similar legislation. They need to go to committee and work out a compromise. If you tax companies that send jobs overseas…you’d have to start with GE! The guy who has been Obama’s job czar!

At the state level…we got rid of the onerous Michigan Business Tax, a tax that has hated by Democrats and Republicans and replaced it with what Democrat Andy Dillon called a “simpler, fairer tax”. Michigan has done better than other states since we’ve balanced the budget and voted down by a landslide margin job-killing Proposal 2.

    2. Mike M. says:

In Bizzaro world, asking for picture ID is “taking away voting rights.” Trying to prevent illegal aliens, felons, and dead people from voting is “taking away voting rights.” “Taking away voting rights” looks remarkably like “preventing Democrats from stealing elections.”

      1. Mark (East Lansing) says:

Sure, target elderly people and people of color. Not everyone has a photo ID. How is that not a rights issue? While allegations of voter fraud have occurred, the number of substaniations have been microscopic and would have been inconsequential.

Two words for you: Jim Crow.

  11. Dan says:

Mindy, you do have a right to your opinion. However, you should gather facts and do your own thinking. Why let others think for you?

  12. Cort S. says:

And while you guys on both sides bicker about who is the slimiest, there are people outside of this partisan battle, with a nebulous but enormous amount of influence, who like things just the way they are. They’re busy vacuuming up money from the lower and middle class and keeping it for themselves, while you sit there and fight amongst yourselves about whose puppet is less corrupt.

    1. Yup (Grandville) says:

      Preach it brother Cort!

  13. Mindy says:

Once again, I have MY FACTS, and i do my OWN THINKING!!! NEVER VOTED REPUBLICAN, NEVER WILL !!!!! Bout time to get some LIBERAL OPINION on this CONSERVATIVE WEATHER BLOG!!! other might be afraid of posing their OPINION, NOT ME !!!!!!!!

    1. Yup (Grandville) says:

No, you are a puppet. Its people like you with blinders on hell bent on changing the world because it fits YOUR minuscule world view. As Dan said, stop letting others do the thinking for you. It’s a sign of a feeble mind.

  14. Mark (East Lansing) says:

So how about this gorgeous weather?

  15. Mindy says:

In the past i always left a comment on how this is A WEATHER BLOG!!! you get nowhere on talking Politics on a Weather blog!!! you always have a few bloggers got to get that last punch line in and tell you what they think of your opinions!! PATHETIC!!! You know who you are!!!

    1. michael g (SE GR) says:

As the back of the Rapid bus said last fall, “Don’t take no static vote straight Democratic”.

And no, I’m not making that up.

    2. Mike M. says:

      1) Don’t use caps, you come off like a 14-year old.
      2) This is Bill’s blog. People who comment here are commenters, not bloggers.
      3) There is no rule on subject matter here. Fighting about politics is as American as apple pie and provides a much more fertile ground for commentary than weather, especially when there’s nothing going on, weather-wise.
      4) The Republicans in Congress are doing what their constituents want. Their game plan should be “block everything the Dems want.”

  16. deanna says:

just a short note…the system is broke. too many people on welfare (who shouldnt be), the legal system fails us every day (when you get more time for marijuana than murder there is a problem), and many other issues. the politicians are more concerned with taking and not giving and until that changes, nothing will…i say overthrow the government and start all over!

    1. Mark (East Lansing) says:

We can start with term limits for legislators. Four terms is plenty. The incumbent reelection rate is ridiculous.

And reform is desperately needed. Way too much $$ and influence from PACS, lobbyists, and corporations. And they should only be allowed to campaign during the 90 days prior to election day. It seems they spend half of their terms campaigning when they should be doing what WE want them to do.

The Executive branch has gone crazy the past two administrations. Constitution? What Constitution? Our government is supposed to be a system of checks and balances. Obama and Bush have done (did) essentially whatever they wanted to do with no backlash from Congress.

And I more than agree with you re: the judicial system. It is horribly unfair. Why do you think prisons are filled with poor people? The poor people can’t afford decent representation. And now with privately-owned prisons, good luck getting paroled.

  17. Tabetha says:

We get nowhere talking politics period. My bills take up 3/4 of the money I make and even I can find the extra cash to keep my gas tank filled. Stop blaming it on the government and stop making excuses for yourself. If you’re paying for the gas in the cars of your kids, maybe it’s time for them to work for their gas money like I, and many of us did when we were 15, 16, 17. Maybe it’t time to cut down on the boat rides and water sports. Gas prices will go up, and gas prices will go down. You can’t change it and too many people require gas to boycot buying it, so get over it.
