WW0421 RADAR Thumbnail Image Mackinac Is. storm 7 18 13 gusts to 58 mph  There’s was a Severe T-Storm Watch for the eastern U.P. and northern Lower Michigan.  Gusts hit 58 mph at the weather station on Mackinac Island.  I got this picture from Sandi, who is on the island.  She wrote:  “This was moments before the storm.  It was crazy.  Trees down, lost screens, etc.  It was calm and then it was rocking and rolling.”   Also, gusts to 63 mph from a ship 25 miles NE of Copper Harbor 59 mph at “Windigo, 51 mph at the NWS office at Negaunee and 45 mph near L’Anse.  Golfball-sized hail at Barton City with trees down.  Nickel-sized hail fell west of Manistique and one person was killed in a fire started by lightning near McMillan.  M-35 was blocked by a downed tree and there were power poles down.  Champion had wind damage.  Deer Park reported trees down on campers and cars.

Cousin from Newberry said over 9 inches of rain at his place on Manistique Lake with the past 24 hours. Many, many lightning strikes around the lake with two houses on fire just west of Newberry. Very strong winds came across the lake with the southeast having many trees down and damaged with trees in the lake along with branches. Blinding rains for over 45 minutes with the storms this morning and now this evening. He is a ham radio operator so waiting to hear how this storm has done later on tonight or tomorrow morning.

My best guess on our weather here is that I feel all of southern Wisconsin and most of lower Michigan should be under a moderate risk tomorrow SINCE we haven’t had anything to turn our atmosphere over down in the central/southern areas. Just looking at atmospheric soundings from roughly 18z through about 08z on Fri/Sat. there should be a rapid development of severe weather with bowing/line segment racing from the northwest (northwest flow event can be very damaging) down through the central/southern areas with high winds, torrential rains and vivid lightning. Should have about 3k + joules with LI around -8 after the lunch hour. Conditions will be very ripe for explosive storms as capping will be gone plus will have a powerhouse jet of around 100knots coming in with the front as seen on most model guidance. Have to wait and see how models look in the morning, how convective nature works over atmosphere to the north overnight, and also see how balloon launch soundings look after 13z launch to our northwest. But should be in prime spot for severe as things look to come in at right time of day…just have to sit back and wait….

YES FRIDAY IS OUR DAY!! CAN’T WAIT FOR THE HUGE BIG BOOMERS THAT ARE COMING AND WILL BE DEVELOPING OUR WAY!!!

WAHOOOOOOOOO WEATHER WATCH OF SOME SORT WILL BE ISSUED FOR US SOMETIME TODAY, MY THINKING IS A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH, ONLY BECAUSE THE GREATEST SHEAR ISN’T THERE ALL THE WINDS ARE PRETTY MUCH FLOWING IN THE SAME DIRECTIONS AT ALL LEVELS. SO DAMAGING WINDS I SEE IS OUR BIGGEST THREAT!!! AND OF COURSE VERY HEAVY RAIN. WHICH WE DO NEED SOME GOOD RAINS. WE HAVEN’T HAD A DECENT RAIN HERE IN GR FOR A WHILE NOW SO THIS WILL BE NICE. WHO IS WITH ME THINKING THE WEATHER WATCH WILL BE ISSUED AROUND 4PM?????? I AM GIVING IT A LEWAY BETWEEN 1 TO 2 HOURS PLUS/MINUS. BUT CLOSER TO THE 4PM HOUR IS MY GUESS. ENJOY THE. BIG BOOMERS EVERYONE TOMORROW(FRIDAY)
