<–Grand Haven fireworks above Dewey Hill. Photo by Stacy Niedzwiecki. I was at Grand Haven all day Saturday for the Coast Guard Festival. I joined Matt Kirkwood, Emily Linnert, and Brett Thomas in the big Meijer Parade. I actually rode thru the parade a second time with the AWESOME Grand Haven Science Olympiad Team. Grand Haven has won state and even national Science Olympiad competition…over many years. They have a terrific program. I made a brief appearance at the big show (“The Company Men“) at the Waterfront in the evening before the fireworks. They usually send up about 5,500 shells, so it’s one of the best fireworks shows in the Midwest. If anyone shot video of the fireworks, you might want to send it to us at ReportIt (and maybe put it up on YouTube). Remember, a better way to get to Grand Haven on Coast Guard Festival Saturday from Grand Rapids is to take M-45 west to US 31…and better yet is to take M-45 to 144th Ave. north to Mercury Drive. If you do come down I-96, get off at the Eastmanville exit and get south of the river. You can usually get right into town on Mercury Dr. and avoid the stop and go. I usually park just on the east side of US 31 and make a quick exit out of town back down Mercury Drive. Side note: Remember when Dewey Hill caught fire in 2005? That was a very dry year. Thanks to all who said “hi” to me and a special thanks to the men and women of the Coast Guard.
Also, check out the picture of lighting in Tampa Bay, the first sunset since May at Barrow, Alaska and this lady’s had the same car for 56 years. There’s still a small patch of ice left in Hudson Bay in the first week of August.
