Ontario pays wind turbine operators NOT to produce energy

wind turbines    I saw this from the Canadian Press:  “Ontario will start paying wind power generators today not to produce electricity, but the government says the move will actually save ratepayers big bucks…until now, the province paid for all the electricity generated from industrial wind mills, even when it wasn’t needed. Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli says the system operator can now order wind producers not to generate power.”     So…the taxpayers and ratepayers of Ontario heavily subsidized the construction of the wind turbines, paid higher rates for the electricity generated from the wind turbines, and now are paying not to even get the power.

My first thought is perhaps they need to take the least efficient, most polluting power generating system off-line to make way for the new (hopefully) efficient, non-polluting system to provide power.

This article points out the fallacy of legislating ‘progress’. We got the same more jobs, cheaper energy, save the world happy song and dance routine here in the states. The fact is the economy is much better at picking winners that any politician with a kick-back to gain ever has been.

Have the environmentalists been fussing about the dead Condors, Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles or other magnificent species that have been being killed by the wind turbans? Not so much, at least that I’ve heard about. I’d rather see a live Condor than a politician chasing a kick-back, or an environmentalist cashing his government welfare check.
