We have a Frost Advisory for early Monday AM for Mason, Lake, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella and Montcalm Counties. There’s a Freeze Warning for Clare and Osceola Counties north through much of interior northern Lower Michigan. Skies have cleared and temperatures will drop to the mid 30s to low 40s with the cool spots into the low 30s. We’ll also have Frost/Freeze Advisories for early Tues. AM. We should see a lot of sunshine the rest of the week with our next chance of any significant rain not until next weekend. This week, it’ll warm up a couple degrees each day.
Low temperatures Monday AM: 25 Doe Lake (U.P.), 27 Leota (Clare Co.), 28 Houghton Lake, Vanderbilt, Atlanta, 29 near Big Rapids, Baldwin, Pellston, Grayling and Lake City, 30 agricultural station near Lawrence, 31 Cadillac and Kalamazoo Nature Center, 33 Ludington, Big Rapids, 34 Entrican (Montcalm Co.), 35 Belding, 36 Ionia, Hart, Hastings, 37 Charlotte, Alma, Lansing, 38 Marshall, S. Haven Fremont, Kalamazoo Airport, Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, 39 Muskegon, Holland, Coldwater and East G.R., 40 Benton Harbor, Allendale, 41 Sturgis, Three Rivers.
The highest temperature in the U.S. was 98 (not unusual) at Philip, South Dakota (quite unusual to have the hottest temp. in the U.S. in S. Dakota. The high of 55 in G.R. Sunday was 15 deg. cooler than average and brought our Sept. average temp. down to +0.7 deg. warmer than average (for G.R.). Marquette had a high of just 48. The floodwaters from Colorado are moving through Nebraska on the Platte River, which reached a record state at North Platte. Back in Colorado, heavy snow was reported at Berthoud Pass. 5″ of snow fell at Toulumme Meadow in Yosemite N.P. 1.5″ of rain fell at Blue Canyon CA – more than their average Sept. rainfall. The combined ACE Index (a combination of the number and intensity of tropical storms) is at an all time low for this late in the hurricane season for the combined Atlantic/SE Pacific. In the western Pacific, Typhoon Usagi slammed into China with the center reaching land just north of Hong Kong. At least 20 fatalities were reported and coast areas had 70-90 mph wind gusts. Stock trading was halted on the Hong Kong Exchange. Garner NC had 4.25″ of rain. A non-thunderstorm gust to 85 mph was recorded in the mountains SW of Colorado Springs.
The Wolverines have won the last 2 games and dropped from 10th to 18th in the ratings. A couple more wins like that and they’ll be out of the top 25! Lions get a win and the Tigers are putting a wrap on the division.
