Tornadoes hit NE/IA

tornado wayne 1   Tornado Wayne 2tornado wayne 3  18 tornadoes were reported in far NE Nebraska and far NW Iowa Saturday PM.  Fifteen injures were reported in the town of Wayne, Nebraska, where phone service was disrupted and a gas leak was reported at the damaged Van Diest Supply Co.  A Hazmat team was dispatched to the scene.  Multiple buildings were damaged including several farm homes.  That tornado appears to be an EF4.  Provident Medical Center in Wayne was in Code Yellow Disaster Mode.  Nebraska Public Power reports that 3 major transmission lines have been knocked out by the twisters.  Vehicles were flipped over by the twisters.   Large hail up to baseball-size was also reported with the stormsStorm chaser video of the twister.   Pictures here from KTIV.  More pictures here and hereVideo of tornadoes/damage in Palmyra, NE.   There was a sharp temperature gradient across Nebraska.  Grand Island had a high of 81 on Friday, while farther west, the high in Scottsbluff was only 36 and it was snowing.

    Wow..that twister was wide. How on Earth could you avoid ‘that’ thing if it were coming your way.
    Curious to see the stats once they come in.

    I know Nebraska is a wide state – but a temp swing from 36 (west side) to 81 (est side) is still astounding!!!
