GRR Radar   Mattawan Damage Click on the radar image on the left to animate. Click on both images to enlarge. Sunday we had wind damage from both showers and thundershowers and also from general winds along and behind a cold front. The GRR NWS has a nice write up on the storms with looping radar, so please check it out here.  The write-up at the link discusses the straight-line wind damage in Mattawan, where winds of 75 mph occurred.  Also, an NWS survey found a tornado skipped along a rather long path of over 50 miles from eastern Muskegon Co. up into Mecosta or Isabella County.   The survey found at least 3 brief touchdowns, one near Bailey, one near Grant and another near Croton.  The damage was less than 100 yards wide and winds were estimated to be 65-75 mph at the ground and 85 mph at treetop level.   Peak wind gusts from the storms included 78 mph at a marina in Grand Haven, 70 mph at the Battle Creek Airport, 67 mph at the Alma Airport and 63 mph at the Ford Airport in Grand Rapids.   Wind gusts along and behind the cold front included 83 mph at the Spyglass Condos Weather Station just north of the Holland Channel and 77 mph at the South Haven Lighthouse.   There was one injury in Clare Co.
