Great Early Season Skiing/Boarding/Tubing

pando 3   The pic. is from Pando Park’s facebook page.  Pando is open ’til 10 today (Friday) and 10-10 Saturday for skiing, snowboarding and for tubing.   Resorts have been making snow and have natural snow (even powder conditions!).  Here’s a list of ski resorts open in Michigan (up to 48″ bases already!).  Also open:  Bittersweet in Otsego and  Timber Ridge in Gobles.  Here’s North American snow/ice cover.  +95% of Canada has a snow cover.  Lake Winnipeg pretty much frozen over and ice is forming at a good clip over Hudson Bay.

Thanks, Larry. To Jack – I’m an Eagle Scout, Troop 6, Wilmette, Illinois. I came here to W. Michigan in Nov. 1974 and got involved as an adult volunteer. One of the projects I worked on was the annual Eagle Scout luncheon for new Eagle Scouts, which used to be held at the Elks Country Club on Leonard, NW.

Muskegon is now over 3″ above average snowfall for season to date. One day is all it takes this early in the season. GR is still missing out so far.

    1. Jack says:

Hey, D.F. I found This in Regards To G.R. Averages on SnowFall in November :::: Accumulation at this location in November is just less likely than not. The chances of there being snow on the ground are highest around November 30, occurring 37% of the time.

    2. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

It looks beautiful and wintry outside. I was shocked to see a map today that still shows us above normal temperature wise. I could not believe it.

  6. Scott says:

I didn’t want to bury this way down in another thread, but this one does talk about snow. I wanted to show you guys a great presentation on Lake Effect snow – for those inquiring more about the subject, this is an amazing presentation.

For those wanting to learn all about LES, this is a good and simple resource. Enjoy.

  7. Cliff(Scotts) says:

Love how a lot of areas are around -3 for the month yet no one is freaking out on here. When it’s +3 though, Travis is on here everyday posting about the temps and cpc updates. I’m not biased one way or the other, I just state the facts. It’s cold!!! Temps will come back to normal next week than batten down the hatches, winter is making a early arrival starting in December.

  8. John says:

It’s looking much cooler after next weeks warm up! If we have good moisture and the right flow over the lake we could really get hammered by lake effect next weekend! But time will tell and with this northerly flow pattern we have had the last month or so it could very well end up being another northerly flow event, or it may not even pan out! Time will tell!

  9. Brian (Grandville) says:

I think I’ll stay away from this blog for a while, for reasons that others have stated recently in the past. There seems to be to much animosity between a few on here, and seems to be ruining the purpose of the blog for everyone that means well. Lets hope we can clean it up a little, and get back to a fundamental basis of a good weather forum like this use to be. The back and forth downgrading of each other has gotten real old. We need to be better than that, all of us.

  10. John says:

The 00Z GFS is now starting to get the idea of a nice WNW lake effect snow event next Saturday! :) that would favor everyone west of 131! Here’s hoping

    1. Michael (Berrien county) says:

Also a potential synoptic snow setup on Friday with the GFS, with the 00Z GEM pointing towards a synoptic snow system coming out of the southwest & hitting us next weekend. Still a ways out yet, but something to keep an eye on in the days ahead.

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

        Imagine that! Who knew?
