Winter Weather Advisory until 10 am

December 24th, 2013 at 4:13 pm by under Bill's Blog, Weather

advisory   A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for the entire area until 10 am Thurs.  The Advisory is for another 1-4″ of new snow overnight (least toward Jackson, the most west and north of Grand Rapids and along the lakeshore) along a little drifting snow in the outlying areas.  There is still a small threat of trees, branches and wires coming down due to the wind and any additional snowfall.   The Advisory is for 4-10″ for Benzie, Leelanau and Manistee Counties.

    2. Chris says:

Seems to me a 20 mph sustained wind tomorrow with our ice covered trees will be a major problem. I can hear my trees straining right now in the back yard near our power poles under a 8 mph breeze. The affects of Fridays ice coating is still yet to be realized….location grand haven…

Another icestorm to snowstorm event coming the first week of January, thats what most of the models are showing. Another brief warmup coming around the 5th with freezing rain, rain then to heavy snow. Looks like maybe another crippling icing event coming for the southern parts of Lower Mich.

In Swartz Creek (just west of Flint), we pulled into my wife’s uncle’s driveway at 6:10 with a temperature of 3 above! The drive from GR area to Flint was gorgeous. I’ve never the type of colors reflecting off of the ice the way it was/is today. It looks like chandeliers! Add another couple of inches tomorrow. Safe travels everyone, hope that those w/o power get it restored ASAP. Merry Christmas!

    1. Sandy (Hudsonville) says:

  9. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

They updated the WWA to start an hour later than expected… Must be a bit slower than earlier thought.

    1. Scott says:

      Nathan, source please?

Latest updates maintain a 2AM for northern and 7AM for southern counties start time.

If you have further information, please source the info because I don’t see it. Thank you, and great pic by the way.

      1. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

SNOW SHOWERS DEVELOPING AROUND 3 AM.

        * SNOW ACCUMULATIONS 1 TO 4 INCHES BY 8 AM WEDNESDAY.

        * BLOWING SNOW REDUCING VISIBILITIES.

It was originally 2AM and 1-4 inches by 7AM. And thanks!

        1. Scott says:

OK, I see. WWA start times haven’t changed, they remain 2 and 7, but they have the snow showers themselves developing around 3. If you notice in the text, the WWA Start time is still remaining at 2 AM.

That is awesome. I’m afraid that person will lose their job because of mentioning…dare I say it, CHRISTMAS while on the clock for the government. I’m offended that they said that word! It’s supposed to be holiday!
      /sarc off/
Merry Christmas all. :) Enjoy it and be safe.

  11. Scott says:

Here’s another weather GEEK Christmas song…

    Or how about this one…

I want a mid latitude cyclone for Christmas…

Don’t Want a Storm without a Big old TROWAL
I want a storm with arctic air to last for quite a while…

    And one more…

We Three Lows of Complex Storm Are…

    Merry Christmas everyone LOL

  12. Mark says:

Gotta imagine that 15-25 mph winds are going to be enough to wreak havoc on an awful lot of trees and power lines out there. Hopefully not, because I’d hate to see lots of people losing power on Christmas Day. Stay safe, everyone!

    1. BigCountry(Wyoming, MI) says:

I agree, its been gorgeous but I do believe that we will be seeing a lot more power outages because of it.
Hopefully the small warmup this weekend will be enough to get the ice to come off the trees that still have limbs.

  13. ~Sherry~ (Comstock Park) says:

This is the most beautiful Christmas I can remember. Driving around today it was like diamonds all over the trees. Merry Christmas everyone!

    1. John says:

      Starting to snow here.

  14. Merry Christmas Eve and as well as I wish everyone a Merry Christmas tomorrow!! hopefully this wind doesn’t knock out widspread power again, but with the wind it appears it may be the case tomorrow, but we will hope for the best!!

  15. Scott says:

I woke up. And I literally went “ooooooooohhhh” when I looked out the window at the beauty of everything. Ice with huge icicles layered with a fresh topping of snow. Everything glistened and sparkled. I have never, anywhere, ever seen anything so beautiful – it even topped freezing fog landscapes, and believe me, those were spectacular. I hope people got out there cameras and took pics.

    1. Scott says:

*trees* not Ice start of 2nd sentence

    2. Brian(Grandville) says:

I did get some pics today Scott, also got a couple videos of the ice on the trees, while driving down M-89 near Richland this morning.

      1. Scott says:

Excellent. Hopefully you can eventually share them with us.

  16. Todd In Nunica says:

sure wish the snow was already here or coming later morning time frame tomorrow, looks like ill have to get up 4-5am and do drives, then hurry home before the kid opens everything. Not many years I actually have had to plow Christmas morning, but looks like this will be one of them. Oh well.

    1. BigCountry(Wyoming, MI) says:

The kids can wait for their dad, if he wasn’t plowing snow they may not get all the presents that they will otherwise!
      Merry Christmas Todd

      1. Todd In Nunica says:

Thanks, Merry Christmas to you as well! The good news is I have only 2hrs of drives, so I am not that affected on Christmas. Of course ill pay for it Christmas night when everything that has not been done for 2 days (businesses) has to be done for the work day Thursday.

  17. SlimJim NW GR (1) says:

Looking at the radar it seems that the bulk of the snow in Wisconsin will go to the north of GR so GR may not get very much snow out of this system.
    SlimJim

    1. Jordan (Twin Lake) says:

I still think GR picks up an inch or two.
