lake michigan ice satellite dec. 2013   Click on the image or click here to enlarge (video at link).  Colder than average temperatures have caused ice to start forming early on the Great Lakes.  Also, could Chicago get ALL TIME RECORD COLD??  (Note:  the Euro. has been a little too cold in the long-term at times this winter.)  Brutal cold heading toward the Northern U.S.   Siberian Express cold shot centered over Michigan-WisconsinWeatherBell snowfall prediction for upcoming clipper.

Wow! That video is crazy! Whoever was in that white car is dang lucky. If you look at the top of the mountain early in the video you can see parts breaking away.

  2. norm says:

does anybody else find irony in a ship full of scientist studying global warming being stranded in the antartic ice in the middle of their summer?

    1. Cort S. says:

It’s ironic on its face, but earth science is always more complex when you dig deeper into it. Antarctica is losing land ice, but gaining sea ice.

(Note to those smarter than me: Here is my source; you may discredit it however you wish. However, my point about us all needing a deeper understanding of the complexities of earth science still stands.)

      1. Resourceful Nana says:

        Amen, Cort.

      2. norm says:

Yes Cort way more complex, while the G.R.A.C.E. satellites give an estimate of the ice mass, it is an estimate without a true cause. With a new record low recorded a short time ago (November I think)of -135.8 degrees it’s hard equate the loss to man made causes, HOWEVER my source (www.newscience.com/artice/dn24589-seething-volcanoe-buried-under-Antartica’s-ice) does show a more plausible cause. I found it interesting the number on the continent as well as off shore under the ice amazing.
