Chance of Snow for Thurs. PM

January 15th, 2014 at 3:58 pm by under Bill's Blog, Weather

advisory  A Winter Weather Advisory will remain in effect until 1 am Friday, for Ottawa, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Mason, Lake, Manistee, Benzie and Leelanau Counties and for much of the eastern U.P.  It’s been cloudy and breezy but the winds will diminish a touch this PM/evening.  We’ve had some drifting snow, but not a lot of snowfall.  Muskegon reported around an inch and we’ve had just a dusting inland.   Here’s some snowfall totals from the U.P.

Three new inches of snow today. Easy to measure. Stick the ruler down into the snow until you hit the layer of rock hard ice. Bring on the snow. Looks to pile up. Light snow accumulations tomorrow and Friday and the NWS Northern Indiana gives me moderate snow accumulations on Saturday. Some fresh powder awaiting me on the slopes Saturday!

  2. INDYY says:

Boring weather somebody says for us look at radar great lks only place having weather……Wow who would of thought!!! INDYY….

    1. Ansel says:

I agree Indy….y its actually been snowing here for most of the day. 4 inches and counting.

  3. SW Kent says:

Rocky, remind us all again… many inches of snow will GR get over the next 2 weeks?

    1. Heat Miser says:

Your funny. Asking yourself a question on a message board. Why don’t you ask Mojo???

      1. SW Kent says:

    2. Mark (East Lansing) says:

I believe it 6-10 THIS WEEK.

  4. INDYY says:

Bill says and theres another BIG cold shot coming!!! I LOVE IT!! IN DYY!!

  5. DF (SE Mich) says:

Snowfall totals around Michigan. Ann Arbor over 24″ above normal already!

Just had a report from a local road agency here saying they have eclipsed 4 years worth of winter maintenance spending already this year… amazing winter indeed.

    1. Bobby (Ada) says:

$500 bucks? When will they learn that patching the roads 10+ times per year is a waste of money and that if they just repaved, the initial cost is higher, but way cheaper in the long run. Smh

      1. DF (SE Mich) says:

That would be nice… Unfortunately I understand you get what you pay for, which will be less already from the budget breaking winter.

    1. DF (SE Mich) says:

… and snowy according to those. Although the CPC record the last three months is dismal at best.

      1. Cort S. says:

Again, medium-range outlooks… not bad, especially when there’s clearly a strong signal for a western ridge and eastern trough. Anything a month or longer… crap.

        1. DF (SE Mich) says:

          Agreed for the most part.

    2. John says:

I think the CPC is catching onto the cold air at least shown by the models, I’m not so sure about the above normal snow though, it would take a lot of moisture to build out west to get a decent snowstorm, not saying it couldn’t happen but I think the chances are slim

  6. INDY says:

AGAIN it’s winter folks and it’s not going away anytime soon!! Don’t let a few of same names on this blog tell u its going to warm up!!! 100% sure not going to happen till March….sit back drink some sprite tonight and love the snow and cold!!!! INDYY….

  7. Brenda (Otsego) says:

    It’s sunny and snowing. Beautiful!

  8. INDY says:

Bill Bruno mars is coming to Grand Rapids in June !!!!! CRNK IT!!! INDYY!!

  9. Todd In Nunica says:

Anyone got a time on the start of the next clipper? NWS says after 2am, but wood says around daybreak…….would love to narrow it down from a 6 hr window….lol

With a ssw wind the lake enhancement (I think) will be a bit farther to the north than our typical sw flow (which means Matt the good enhancement may be too far north of our area)….then again weather rock is being VERY quiet with this clipper…….so ill just have to speculate…….

    1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

Hey Todd. I think we’re set for some good enhancement…probably more my area than yours. But that’s good for you, since you plow a lot over here. :) I think it would be best on a SW or WSW flow, but I still think we’ll get a decent amount. I guess we’ll see… I’ll keep you updated. From watching radar, it looks like the lake effect is starting to shift in to more of a SW flow.

      1. Todd in Nunica says:

This thing is racing across Wisconsin, the leading edge went almost 3 counties in one hr…..I cannot see this waiting till daylight to get here…..but yea sw flows usually pretty good we will have to see, just the a wrench in it when I saw ssw flow. Either way it’s time to get back to work.

  10. INDY says:

3-6 inches coming for west Michigan tonight…..INDYY…

  11. Dan says:

Cold and Cold where is our snow?

  12. Jack says:

    1. INDY says:

Bill will like that song uncle Jack… I LOVE IT!! Sparkee eats its!! INDYY….

      1. Jack says:

        INDY…” Keep Me Informed ” !!!!!! Just Like BILL DOES!!! See HERE:::: ;-) . Stay Cued & Tuned…… ;-)

  13. Uncle Sparkee says:

Your ol uncle sparks is layin back tonight, had a long day ice fishin, survival in the backwoods. Tonight I’m kickin back smokin J birds, eatin your ol aunty Edna’s bean soup. It’s life in the backwoods you crazy weather hobos!

  14. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Wow 2-6 inches is a pretty big difference. I guess you can just assume about 4 inches then?

    1. Uncle Sparkee says:

It makes a big difference if you smoke 4 joints vrs 1 or even just a roacher. I guess that would be the same for snow accumulation. Wow way to much for your ol uncle sparks to think about man.

        1. Uncle Sparkee says:

Wow frost quakes man, coool, Nathan’s a true weather hobo. The ol love shack will have the ol frosted quakes tonight after your ol aunty Edna’s bean soup decides to digest man ! Wow

      1. Brian(Grandville) says:

Wow, what a way to put it into perspective for 3% of us on here

        1. Uncle Sparkee says:

Even tokes the blood hound had a bowl! He loves bean soup! Look out the ol back woods is going to smell like hell on chocolate puff cakes and weasel nuts!

  15. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Looks like another bust for GR. We are heeded for an inch of SNOW tomorrow! Whoopee! No SNOW storms are in sight!

  16. John says:

That weekend clipper that’s going just south of us looks like a pretty strong clipper much like the one that Wisconsin and northern lower saw last night

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Of course all of the good clippers either go North of us or South of us. Nothing new there!

      1. John says:

It’s just not right! The West Michigan bubble

      2. John says:

Well I’m not going to complain looks like a good 5-6″ of snow for me tomorrow and another couple on Friday! :)

        1. Jeremy (Three Rivers) says:

NWS Northern Indiana still gives me moderate snow accumulation potential for Saturday down here. They’re more aggressive. NWS Grand Rapids only has a 50% chance of snow for Kalamazoo (20 miles north of me) on Saturday.

    2. Todd In Nunica says:

could be like last year on Jan 15 when we were sitting on less than 10″ total snow…..(Nov/Dec/half of Jan)

In fact I had STILL not plowed any snow before Jan 15th last winter.

  17. Rocky (Rockford) says:

    >>>>>BREAKING WEATHER BULLETIN>>>>>>> THE 18z RDB model gives GR a whopping .8 inches of SNOW on Thursday! Get ready for another disappointment!

    1. Jack says:

Enough !!! Rocky !!! Talk about a Debbie ( DOWN! DOWN! DOWNER)))))). CUE::: Stay cued… Winter ain’t over YET ROCKY ! “chin UP & GRINNNN!!! JEM model says so !!! ;-)

      1. Uncle Sparkee says:

That’s a big 10 4 rubber ducky! May the green always keep you true to your beliefs. And always keep your powder dry cuz jack.

  18. John says:

Time frame for tomorrow’s snow looks like 4am-7-8pm

  19. DF (SE Mich) says:

It’s starting to show on NWS forecasts.

Wednesday Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 10.

    1. John says:

It’s only going to get colder than that!

  20. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

We will see how this plays out for tomorrow :) Looks like about 1-4 for Muskegon with 4-6 north of there. Winds then shift west and more counties receive snowfall. I guess winter is back! (Information from Bill btw)

    1. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Well, information as of earlier, so he may of changed a few highlights. Overall I agree with the earlier thoughts. He now mentions a general 2-6, so we can just go with that.

      1. WswPlz says:

Btw- Nathan keep the good reports coming, as it was you if I remover correctly who stayed optimistic as to our last major snow storm. While reminding many that although our chances might not be great, we should still keep a watchful eye on the track of the past pacific ” hooker”.

      1. WswPlz says:

We might want to pause for second ( John ) and rethink what we say. It was not to long ago in a galaxy far far…… Only kidding but if you recall ” Debbie Downer ” aka Sly Stallone aka ” Rocky ” said that a big snow storm would be a bust south and in no possible reality would it trend north. And in amazing fashion that southern storm did the impossible…..!! So I say, welcome Ms. Debbie Downer of the Downer snow family with open arms, and we might turn the proverbial corner so to speak. In a last stitch effort if all else fails, we are left to consulting Todd’s-almighty weather rock. Either way I think it’s a win win and if history is of any indication of what’s to come well….I say all hail Rocky’s prediction of a bust= SNOW COLD and more SNOW and COLD.!!!

        1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

The newest run of the NAM looks like it is coming North with the stronger weekend clipper.

        2. WswPlz says:

Hmmmm…. That sounds inviting. I will have to peak then. Thought it was much to south for our cwa.

  21. Matt(OceanaCo) says:

It looks as though the snow will arrive by midnight now!!!

  22. WswPlz says:

It would be nice if we could actually get in the path of a few of these Clipper systems moving through. Hate seeing the snow just missing us one way or the other.

  23. TomKap (Michigan St. & Fuller) Grand Rapids says:

No, it wouldn’t be nice. Keep that crap anywhere but here. I want some sunshine and chirping birds and nice warmth. Enough of this Winter misery.

    1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

Really? In a Michigan winter? Bahaha

    2. Brian(Grandville) says:

Below 0 temps., cars not starting , and birds flying south. Keep it coming. Sorry Tom, I love winter. :)

      1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

Haha! I think I questioned it for the three seconds my car did a 360 yesterday on a local road. I ended up ok, thanked God, and started looking for snowflakes again….

        1. Brenda (Otsego) says:

    3. WswPlz says:

Everyone wants something that’s for sure, but it is winter in Michigan. I would say don’t look at our forecast through the end of January if it’s warmth and birds you desire. Maybe a vacation is in store for some, where warmth is on the menu.

    4. WswPlz says:

If this blog is painful for some who don’t like reading about things which often occur during the WINTER, then you are in for a huge reality check when there is no sun an -20 hitting your Bum. Good luck.

      1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

I think I will come on here in the summer and complain 30 times every day about it being too humid….but it would be pointless because it would get overshadowed by fixxxxxy complaining about no thunderstorms….

      2. SBPortage002 says:

I can live with the snow and temps in the teens and 20s…but below zero is just too cold. Besides, if it is big accumulation you desire, seems that you can better get it when not brutally frigid.

      3. TomKap (Michigan St. & Fuller) Grand Rapids says:

Nothing in this silly circus blog is painful to me. I have every right to wish for warmer weather, lower heating bills and some frickin’ SUN. This Winter has worn out it’s welcome for a lot of us.

        1. WswPlz says:

Everyone wishes for something, and your correct, no harm no foul in what we wish for. But maybe it’s just me, but you seem a bit upset just by reading what’s on the way. So I would say embrace the things we can not change, and put our energy towards that which we can, instead of expending it on which we have no power. Life is a much better place in that light. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

  24. Brenda (Otsego) says:

There’s plenty of fresh snow at my house that I’m willing to share with ya’ll!

    1. WswPlz says:

Please do and thanks for chairing B. :)

  25. John says:

Both the 00Z GFS and NAM are farther north on this weekends clipper now! Hmmm now it’s time to start tracking that one!

    1. John says:

Both the GFS and NAM would bring moderate snow’s from South Haven southward and light snows from Ludington southward on this clipper

      1. WswPlz says:

Don’t forget the last clipper that was on a pretty good line to our area, and during the final run of the NAM Hooked nearly 100 miles to the north. So if we could do approx 150m north on this weekends storm, where in business.

    2. WswPlz says:

Ahhh as the elements start to align, our master plan may just have a chance, eh John… :) . Hey wait I just saw a little bird, and he said “why didn’t I bleeping fly south with the others.”

      1. Todd in Nunica says:

Your wishing too early….it’s last min curves that turn good….you wish this early and you will end up being on the south end with the heavy snow going north….just sayin….

        1. John says:

True, I’ve learned that over the past one

        2. WswPlz says:

You must of consulted the almighty weather rock, with such noble words of wisdom. You do have a point…. Lol. It’s just hard for me to be pessimistic, I figured others would have me covered. :) . Thanks for reminding me about the plan. And of course thanks to the sacred one….

  26. Jack says:

Speaking of a ” Whishing Well” and It’s ” Free” !!!!!! CUE::: ;–). Stay Cued!!

  28. Todd in Nunica says:

Bill lowered his snowfall forecast on the 11 o’clock news.

    1. John says:

Not sure why, doesn’t look like amounts lowered any, still looks like a good 3-6″ for the lakeshore counties from Muskegon to the north

    2. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

What did he lower them to?

      1. Todd in Nunica says:

He still had Muskegon north at 4″ but the line was farther north, grand haven up to oh say north Muskegon 3″ mentioned pretty much a south wind.

All I know is I’m tired I’m going to bed, not gonna wait for this one I’ll worry about it in the a.m. just ran through accounts receivable and saw that not one commercial account has paid Any snow plow invoices as of yet, they always seem to be a bit slow in the winter but I think they all need a wake up call, so I’m a bit peeved right now, let’s see how many call in the morning, then I can hit them up for some money….Lol….”sure I’ll be right there….hey while I’m there how about having a check ready for me, I’ll stop in before I plow”……….

        1. John says:

That total was through 1pm he didn’t lower them from the five o’clock news, the total on the 5 o’clock news was through 7pm so there was no lowering at all

    3. John says:

He actually didn’t lower them, in the 5 o’clock news the total was through Wednesday at 7pm for a total of 5″ in Muskegon, but the 11 o’clock news the total was through 1pm Wednesday of 3″, so we could very likely still add a couple inches of snow in that 6 hour time frame

    4. WswPlz says:

      Bill located the weather rock.

      1. Brian(Grandville) says:

        Yes!!! School tomorrow for sure.

  29. John says:

If the snow arrives early (2-3am) and the winds really pick up I could see several schools being closed, even with it being exam week for many schools, I still think if it’s bad enough in the morning several schools will be closed especially the ones closest to lake Michigan as that’s where the snow will begin first. Just a thought, and I could be wrong, for all of those high schoolers on this blog!

    1. Jack says:

      ” High School”…… CUE, Paul Simon :::: Lol…. ;-) . Stay cued !!

      1. WswPlz says:

Blast from the past… Good spin.. :) . Until next time. Stay blessed, you ,family and to all fellow bloggers.

  30. Jack says:

Just a Tune ” For Every Man” on This “THERAPUTIC Thursday” Morning. One of My Faves…..Jackson Browne ::: ;-) .

  31. Matt(OceanaCo) says:

It’s really intensifying over the lake right now!!! We could get some good drifts with this wind too!!!

    1. Matt(OceanaCo) says:

It’s going to hit me in T-5 minutes!!!!

  32. Dan says:

Snow? C’mon Snow! We are waiting for you!
