Snow showers continue, esp. downwind from the fattest part of Lake Michigan (Allegan, Ottawa, Kent) where yet another 1-4″ of snow is likely. Temperatures, if anything will go down a few degrees this afternoon. At 11 am, it’s 17 in G.R., but only 2 above in Chicago, 1 in Kenosha WI and 0 in Sheboygan Wi. It’s 12 in Big Rapids and only 9 in Benton Harbor. Also, continued cold for the next week – though we do get a significant warming influence from Lake Michigan (not frozen over yet). This morning at 7 am, the average temperatures for the contiguous U.S. was 11.0° – the coldest morning of this cold winter…and Grand Rapids was 16° – five degrees warmer than the U.S. average! This morning at 8 am – 31.5% of the contiguous U.S. was below zero and 86.9% was below freezing. The average temperature for the contiguous U.S. was 11.1°.
