Michelle ice fountain gaylord   snow dean greenhoe sheridan michigan 2 14snow dean greenhoe montcalm Co. sheridan 2 14 The first picture was taken by daughter #3, the lawyer in Traverse City, as she went thru Gaylord (side note…this from her facebook page: “Just when I thought I had seen it all…today, my 9:30 court hearing did not start until 11:30, because another attorney “forgot to show up”. The attorney said he had another court matter earlier that morning and “forgot about our hearing”. Tonight, I was watching the local news, and it turns out that this morning the attorney was…at his own sentencing! Yes, his own sentencing, on marijuana charges, in the same county’s District Court. This is why local news remains important).  The picture is a HUGE ice sculpture in downtown Gaylord. Terri DeBoer put that picture on the WOOD facebook page and it had over 3150 shares and an estimated 260,000 views! The next two pictures are from Dean Greenhoe in Sheridan in Montcalm Co. You can see the huge snow piles next to the golf cart (the drifts are so high even Craig James isn’t playing golf now).  Look at the pic. on the right and see how high the snow is compared to the mailbox.   We are now at 63 consecutive days with 4″ or more of snow on the ground in G.R.  Holland and Kalamazoo are 12° colder than average for Feb. so far and G.R. is 10° colder than average.

It may still be cloudy early, but I think we’ll see some sun for the midday and afternoon.  The NAM (caribou) only takes our high temp. to 13.4° (I think that’s a few deg. too cool).  It has zero for a low Weds. am, 24 Weds. PM, 14 Thurs. early  am and 29.2 on Thurs PM.  It gives us little light snow Fri. am, but not much.  There’s about 1/2″ of snow Weds. PM in Cadillac and an inch and a quarter in Ludington…but that area stays north of most of our area.  The GFS caribou has 0.4″ Thurs. night, 2.8″ snow Sat. night and about 1/10th inch of rain/freezing rain and sleet on Monday.  The European has about 1/2″ of snow Thurs. pm, 1 – 1 1/2″ of snow Sat. PM/night (more south than north) and the Euro. also has  the potential for freezing rain/sleet for next Monday.   The Euro. doesn’t get G.R. to 32° until the 18th and not to 35° until the 20th.   The GFS plot’s warmest temp. is 45 around the 20th-21st, but it’s not to be trusted that far out.   It’s hard to get real warm with all this snow on the ground.

Also, trying hard to save your house from the flood – in England.   Monday was the 6th consecutive day with measurable rainfall in Sacramento.   Here (in purple) is where the heaviest snow/mix will be with the East Coast Storm.  Here’s snow amounts from the East Coast Storm.    Multiple accidents blocking traffic on I-75, I- 85, I-20 near Atlanta as icy road conditions spread.   States of Emergency declared now in VA and MD.

Well its looks like it will be a cold night tonight its now down to +7° here and if the skies stay clear we have a good chance of getting down below zero here in GR. I see even with what appears to be a good warm up coming next week there are still several personas that continue to think it will not warm up in fact there is still lots of (wish casting) of more snow storms. I am sure there is a good chance of more snow this winter (I would be more shocked if it did not snow) I still feel we are finally looking at a warm up and while we will not melt all of the snow (there is a lot of it and it has a good crust of ice on the bottom) it will melt some of the snow we now have as it looks to also rain with the warmer temps. We now just have to wait and see how much rain we get and how warm it gets. Too much rain and any more wet snow in the next 45 days and we could be looking at a flood similar or even worst then last year. Stay tuned!

BTW there is a chance we could also be looking at a possible ice event in the next 20 to 30 days. That chance is just as high if not higher then a major snowstorm.

I’m worried about that…there’s a lot of snow and ice around the Great Lakes that will tend to keep the surface air cold.

Interesting how you can be driving along on top of a hill and the temperature on the car thermometer says 7 degrees. Then you drive down the hill into the hollow and the temperature counts down to minus six, then counts back up again as you climb back up. Cold air really does sink.

That is crazy how it changes so quickly when you hit those valley’s…it’s almost like cold air is more dense or something lol.

Hope we don’t end up with an event like this one…
