Lake Erie Report It Point Gratiot Dunkirk NY Jennifer Barabasz   modis lake erie lake erie ice 4 25 I got the picture on the left from Jennifer Bababasz through ReportIt. This was taken at Point Gratiot/Dunkirk – which is about halfway between Buffalo NY and Erie PA. In this pretty sunset pic. you can see some ice in the water. The picture in the middle is the MODIS Lake Erie Satellite picture (from NOAA Coastwatch) from today. The image on the right is the evening update on Lake Erie ice showing 7% ice cover left on Lake Erie…mostly floating chunks, but a couple of small bays seem to have ice yet.  Click on the images to enlarge

WOW, we sure had a very long cold winter. Maybe all this ice will help the lake levels.

Not sure how the ice will do with the lake levels but it sure will keep it cold near the Lakes well into the start of summer (if not most of the summer) and I would not be too surprised to see ice flows on Lake Michigan in Late May and on Lake Superior into June (if not later)

I wonder if since the straits have been frozen over so much longer this year, that some wolves from the u.p. have crossed into lower MI.
