(western U.P.) and south of Grand Marais.   Here’s current North American snow and ice cover.

Keep the facts coming! The “mini ice age” is upon us. Get ready for colder and snowier than average winters! Rock n Roll is here to stay!

    1. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Just the facts. No mini ice age except in Rockford where I’m sure glaciers will form. Who knew? Bring it. I love it. Fantastic. Thanks for listening.

Much below normal temps are on the way! I am sure it will be well above normal in Flint however! Amazing how that works out!

It was a perfect morning for spreading Weed & Feed. Decent temperature, heavy dew and no wind.

michael g, Deb and Sandy – early this morning, I replied to your comments under this subthread: http://blogs.woodtv.com/2014/05/10/weekend-23/comment-page-1/#comment-3725842

There are times when I find it difficult to follow conversations here. I am sure that there are times when someone replies to me and I am not aware of it.

I do suggest that WOODTV looks into different Comment software. Disqus is probably the most popular Comment software around, and the program emails you when someone responds to your own comments.

    1. Rad (Jenison/Hudsonville) says:

Im going out in a few to seed all the bare spots from the snow plows.Hopefully the wind wont blow it all over the place. Once i get some water on it it should be fine.

    2. Sandy(Hudsonville) says:

Hope you are having a wonderful day! It is beautiful outside!! I couldn’t agree more about knowing when someone comments on something. We are all on at different times & I usually end up searching thru if I remember I wrote something. LOL!

A part of weather lore that happenes in mid May is call the “3 chilly saints” that is a cold snap of several days in mid May. And that sure looks to be the case this year and we looking at what should be a wet period and the a cold and wet three or more days. Happy Mothers day to all of the moms out there.

  6. I am confused. So are the storms in western Iowa the main event or is that coming later?

  7. Tom says:

I’m guessing Rocky & Rodey are the same person suffering from dual personality disorder-just my humble observation!! Too bad this once informative weather blog is constantly filled with worthless back ground noise!!!

I can’t believe someone is that obsessed with it.

This afternoon/evening looks pretty good for some strong thunderstorms. Who knows, someone might even get a tornado warning. I am glad the lawn got mowed yesterday, looks like rain all week. Nice and sunny, it’s 72°. Everyone have a nice day. HAPPY MOTHER DAY.

    1. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

Happy Mother’s Day to all the great Mom’s out there , I wouldn’t be typing this comment if it wasn’t for the best Mom in the world.!!

  10. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

Larry I’m thinking you are in a good spot for storm development as you will be just below the stalled out front that is do come through our area. It looks like all a good deal of our viewing should get in on the action through-out the next few days . Enjoy the storms everyone and of course be safe , that goes for you especially Kyle since your out hunting the storms. ( have fun ).

    1. steven (Derby Lake) says:

Is there more of a threat to the south, rather say Montcalm, Kent and Ionia and or parts north?

      1. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

I’m still thinking initially these storms will be elevated in nature so everyone will see some action as the leading edge most likely will touch the southern cwa , then spill to the north up into our area. Being that these storms should be elevated in nature through tomorrow , heavy rain , wind , and lighting should be the main threats. The thinking is the front Is going to stall out over the 1-96 area and slowly clear our area by Tuesday , so.areas to the north should see the heaviest wide speed rains ( fine tuning the exact location TBD ) but the dynamics for some surface based storms looks better for our southern cwa attm.

        1. steven (Derby Lake) says:

I despise the weather channel, but what I don’t get is why it says at the top of their web page: Breaking Now: Tornado threat ramps up; Severe storm warnings issued, when there is no watches/warnings anywhere.

  11. GB says:

Looks like everyone is backing off the very cold temps next week wood had a heigh of 49 on Saturday now 57. Back up to the 70 by early next week.

Happy mothers day it’s great out.

  12. John says:

Dr. Forbes gave us a torcon of 4 for tomorrow. What do some of the great weather minds on our blog think of the severe weather threat?

    1. Brian (Grandville) says:

Minimal inpacts around here. There will be some warnings, but nothing wide spread. I think there is more of a flood threat than anything. Just my two cents.

  13. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

After they build some daytime heat one can see why they are thinking that there will be a large concentration of severe weather in N. Kansas , border NEB / Iowa and then spreading east. I could see quite a few line / bow segments developing , possibly a few tornadoes embedded , however I think the greatest risk will be those discrete storms that can develop behind the initial MCS or around those outflow boundaries. Should be interesting and I’ve already told my relatives in and around Omaha to be safe and vigilant .

  14. Tim (Walker) says:

At this time if the sun can stay out I could see us getting a really good storm or even bow eco this evening. Already in the mid 70′s and not even 1 yet. I predict we hit 82 today with no problem. Anyone have any thoughts?

    1. Larry of Hastings, barry co says:

We better get ready to rock n roll. Tornadoes and bow eco, makes our forecast very interesting. I am not going to get hype up, until it happens. It wouldn’t surprise me if Barry County has a tornado warning tonight or on Monday. Barry County had the most tornado warning last year. Will the trend continue? lol lol lol. I might share this season.lol

    2. Tim (Walker) says:

Ok, im changing it, lets make it 85 degrees today.

    1. Tim (Walker) says:

Bring on the storms. It will be interesting if the storms today can make it over the lake. They have had no problem lately. In fact they seem to intensify as they cross the lake.

  15. Partly Cloudy skies here near Atlantic, Iowa

    1. Larry of Hastings, barry co says:

Sounds like things could get wild in Iowa. I have family in Centerville, Iowa.

      1. Larry of Hastings, barry co says:

Centerville, Iowa is under a tornado watch. My father was raised in Iowa. He had a lot stories about those Great Plains tornadoes.

  16. Zach says:

Wisconsin and Illinois being monitored for a watch

  17. jerry hoag(by the zoo) says:

Tornado Watch for Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa…………….

    1. Larry of Hastings, barry co says:

My (big) gut feeling west Michigan will get a tornado watch sometime around 5pm.

    2. Zach says:

The existing watch does not cover WI, just IA and extreme western IL

however the area is being monitored for a new watch

  18. The Weather Princess says:

Severe Watch of any kind for Michigan is not likely. We are not even in the slight risk area. Conditions do not support any widespread severe watches for the area. Isolated warnings may be possible, but nothing widespread and not until much later in the day.

    1. Zach says:

We are in the slight risk area…. heres is the 1PM(Local) run of the HRRR valid for 8PM(Local)

      http://hazwx.com/share/#48647

    2. Larry of Hastings, barry co says:

Who are you? Are you a weather expert? The NWS has been saying LATER, late afternoon/evening. I think you are trying to ruin our day…NOT.

      1. Zach says:

If you notice I said valid for 8pm local… thats in the evening :) Enjoy your day its beautiful out right now

    3. John (Norton Shores) says:

Parts of SW lower Michigan are in the slight risk today and all of west Michigan is in the slight risk tomorrow, I would like to know why you think severe weather is not likely?

  19. Tornado watch just issued for me here in Iowa!!!!!! The NWS alert system jus came over the radio

    1. John (Norton Shores) says:

That watch was issued where the biggest tornadoes are expected today, so you may be getting your chance to see some tornadoes later this evening! enjoy and be safe! :)

  20. Iowa meteorologist are breaking onto radio constantly to update. It’s cool!

  21. fixxxer says:

Your on a roll this year bill. The longest ive seen you talk about snow, ice and cold. Even though its 80 out.
