Frost Advisory – Friday Morning UpdateMay 15th, 2014 at 4:21 pm by Bill Steffen under Bill's Blog, Weather
Low temps. early Friday: 32° Grand Rapids (missed record low by 3°), 30° Muskegon (missed record low by 1°), 29° at Hart, Ludington, Fremont, Hastings and the S. Haven agricultural station, 28° at Benton Harbor. We’ll stay mostly cloudy this afternoon. An isolated sprinkle or very light shower is possible, but they will be few and far between. At 11 am it’s only 44° in G.R., light rain and 38° in Benton Harbor and it’s snowing at both Gaylord and Marquette (airport).
At 2:30 am Friday am – Dense fog and 32 degrees at S. Haven…watch for condensation on the road if it gets to 30° and the possibility of a few icy spots developing. Any puddles from the rain could freeze. The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for all counties in the TV-8 viewing area. This also extends down into Northern Indiana. The Frost Advisory is in blue on the map here. Flood Advisories have a higher priority than the Frost Advisory, so those counties with a Flood Advisory come up green on the map, but are still under the Frost Advisory. The Advisory will be in effect from 2 am to 8 am. Frost Advisories are also likely for early Saturday morning and early Sunday morning. At 4 pm, the temperature is 43 in G.R., 41 in Grand Haven and S. Haven, 40 in Fremont and 39 in Ludington, so we don’t have far to fall to frost levels. This depends on partial clearing (which I think will happen over most of the area) and calm to light winds. Most areas will still hold a very light wind tonight. You should cover any frost sensitive plants tonight and probably tomorrow and Saturday night, too. Also, we have some puddles out there from the rain. I can’t totally rule out an icy spot somewhere as temps. in isolated areas drop below freezing. At 6:45 pm, the Port Sheldon Buoy Cam shows 5-foot waves and an air temperature of 39°. Freeze Warnings for the Dakotas and W. Minnesota.

Conversation with my lawyer daughter:
Culver’s Employee: I’ve always wanted to ask you guys, you look so familiar. I used to work at the casino, did you guys go there?
Daughter #3: No…Do you have lots of friends that get charged with crimes? Most people recognize me from when I used to be a prosecutor.
Culver’s Employee: Uh, Yeah, maybe
