Click on the images to enlarge. The two pictures on the left were sent to me by Eileen Delong. These are from Friday 5/22. She writes, “Ice still covering the Lake. Trout Lily’s, May Flowers, and Trilliums everywhere in the woods. A man I talked to in the town of Christmas said that when they get a real stiff breeze out of the north, all the ice will end up on the shore there.” The graphs from Environment Canada show current ice on Lake Superior and a comparison of this year to past years. This is the latest we’ve ever had this much ice on Lake Superior. The high temperature at Stannard Rock Friday was 44°. Great Lakes ice cover was above average all winter, peaking around March 5th.
