Impressive Storms

1630 UTC Day 1 Outlook 1630 UTC Day 2 Outlook  derechoclimo  At 1 pm Thurs. – Impressive thunderstorm complex rolling thru NE Arkansas toward W. Tennessee, N. Mississippi.  Lots of wind damage reports, with winds of 60-80 mph.  A hotel roof had significant damage in Branson MO.   You can see on the map on the right, the mostly likely place in the world to see a derecho thunderstorm complex is SW Missouri/NW Arkansas (click the map to enlarge).   The storm track will remain well south of Michigan as we are in an overall comfortable and dry weather pattern across the Great Lakes.

Check out the GRR NWS discussion and the latest surface map. Check out Regional radar to see the rain across the Great Lakes. Here’s GRR radar, local lightning data, meso-discussions and current watches from SPC and a satellite loop. Here’s current Michigan temperatures, National lightning data and the latest discussion from GRR NWS. Here’s National Storm Reports for today and yesterday. 1. According to this is says Southern Michigan gets one derecho every year. Given how this year has gone so far, I don’t see this happening but it only takes one set-up so we shall see. I think we may be storm drought central this year sadly.

    1. John (Norton Shores) says:

Way too early to say that yet, just give it some time, I am sure we will get some good storms later in the month plus we have all of July, storms will happen don’t worry! :)

      1. fixxxer says:

We been lacking severe storms for 4 years now.

Kyle ::: BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A section of Burlingame Avenue SW will be shut down for several hours Thursday afternoon in Byron Center following a search for a large amount of stolen property.

Deputies with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at a home in the 8600 block of Burlingame Avenue south of 84th Street, which was a pre-planned event, according to officials.

The department brought in a number of deputies due to the possibility that the situation could have resulted in a public safety issue. A SWAT team is currently at the scene.

Officials said that two people were detained — not arrested — in connection to the search.

The section of Burlingame Avenue around the home could remain shut down for the entire afternoon.

Byron Center High School, which is north of the scene, had a half-day of school Thursday.

24 Hour News 8 has a crew at the scene. Check back with woodtv.com for updates.

Another fantastic average temp day. So much for the cool temps. 80′s for the weekend. I love it. Bring it. Plenty of 80′s and some 90′s this summer. Who knew? Bring it. Thanks for listening.

The Tigers are playing like one of the WORST teams in baseball! They are playing absolutely HORRIBLE! They are almost as pathetic as fixxxer’s comments! Imagine that! Who knew? GREAT golf weather is here for many days to come! Bring it!

  8. Travis (Oakland County) says:

According to forecasts, today is the coolest day of the next 2 weeks.

And yet I’m already average for today at 75 degrees. .

    Awesome weather coming up!

    1. Bill Steffen says:

Some cool nights…49° last night in G.R. That was 6° below average. It was 38° in Cadillac, 37° in Grayling and as low as 34° in the U.P. We’re still way below average on temperatures for 2014.

      1. Travis (Oakland County) says:

        I was -1 yesterday.

Barely broke my streak of 17 consecutive days without a cool day.

        1. Cliff(KZOO) says:

All streaks come to a end bud.

        2. Mark (East Lansing) says:

Travis, you always say you shouldn’t look at one specific area if you want to think “globally,” yet you always focus on Flint. With all due respect, that’s pretty hypocritical.

Good thing you enjoy counting the warm days as one would need much more than hands and toes to count the cooler ones , especially this year.

SE GR – Helicopter (no specific markings)

All day…100-300 feet in altitude. No complaints here, as the sound is wonderful, and not heard often enough. Wondering who they are, and if they need volunteers ;)

    1. GunLakeDeb says:

Just hovering?? I had a chopper go over about a week or so ago – they were following the big power lines. But we also get them from time to time, looking for marijuana crops….LOL!! (That’s usually the blue MSP chopper) They’ll hover and guide the Troopers’ cars to the location.

      2. steven (Derby Lake) says:

Actually they are following the power lines because they are surveying. They may be getting ready to do some upgrades and repairs or to trim and or clear cut trees. I know a couple guys who work for different companies that do that.

        1. mr. negative says:

Thanks…can’t think of a better “job”

  11. It couldn’t be my car Darren lol the KRP Tracking Machine is under repair right now

    1. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

  12. Brian(Grandville) says:

What a nice day. That breeze is awesome. Love the cool nights. What has become of the Tigers lately? They have done a complete 180 in the past 2 weeks. Figure it out!

  13. steven (Derby Lake) says:

I’ve got something coming for tomorrow afternoon, kinda of a show and tell. I’ll have a couple pictures and a brief description. It’s the 70th anniversary of D-Day, June 6th, 1944. Stay tuned!!! ;)

  14. John (Norton Shores) says:

The EURO has highs in the 90′s next weekend (Not this coming weekend) away from the lake!!! Glad I live near the lake where it has highs only in the upper 70′s.

    1. Brian(Grandville) says:

      I hope that’s wrong.

      1. fixxxer says:

Bring it! You had your cold brian.

    2. Rocky (Rockford) says:

This won’t happen! It will be in the 70′s next weekend! I love it!

      1. Rodey (Rockford) says:

    1. Cliff(KZOO) says:

Enough bashing, quit calling out Travis. He has his opinion and you have yours. Atleast Travis tries to put facts behind his propaganda. Where as you just spew the same things over or over.

    2. Rodey (Rockford) says:

Rocky is a delusional mini ice age freak. How’s that working out for you? Iove it. Fantastic. Who knew? Imagine that. Thanks for listening.

  17. DF (SE Mich) says:

Bill, Mr. Negative, Gun Lake Deb and anyone else who has never seen this. Here is a couple links on the above topic about helicopters and power lines.

I also seen another video somewhere the metal rod was connected to the helicopter the whole time they made a repair because the guy didn’t get out of the basket. Similar to this one.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxDKVAYJ_t4

This link is the best. They first stick a metal rod onto or close to the lines and it grounds through the helicopter so they can touch the lines.
