Storms Sun. Evening/Night

July 4th, 2014 at 4:20 am by under Bill's Blog, Weather

0600 UTC Day 2 Outlook It’s a beautiful day today for the 5th. By late Sunday, we may have some storms approaching. The Slight Risk Area for severe storms is S. Wisconsin, N. Illinois, E. Iowa and far SE Minnesota.   SPC says:  “A MOIST PRE-FRONTAL ENVIRONMENT ACROSS IA INTO WI/SOUTHERN MN AND FAR NORTHERN IL. WHERE STORMS DEVELOP/MATURE…AROUND 40 KT OF EFFECTIVE SHEAR MAY ALLOW FOR BOTH SUPERCELLS AND WELL-SUSTAINED LINE SEGMENTS CAPABLE OF SEVERE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS INTO THE EVENING HOURS.”  I’m working the evening shift today (Sat.).  Tune in for a fresh forecast and watch at 10 pm (WXSP) and 11 pm (WOOD, TV-8) to see video and live pics. of the fireworks.

Severe weather was mostly in the Eastern U.S. on Thurs.  It was chilly early Thurs. AM in Northern MI:  34° at Doe Lake, 35° at Spincich Lake and Indian River, a record 37° at Pellston.   There is virtually no chance of rain today and tomorrow (Sat.).   It’s not impossible that a shower or t-shower could sneak in somewhere Sat. night.  Better chances of a shower or storm from late Sunday PM thru Tuesday.   The overnight Euro. prints out 0.05″ of rain for G.R. Saturday night (the GFS has nothing), then 0.73″ Sunday PM thru Monday am another 0.25″ on Tues.   The GFS is lower with just 1/4″ total rain.  Enjoy the next couple days.  Keep the sunblock handy, esp. if you burn easily.

Low temps. Fri. AM:  44° Ludington and Reed City, 43° Cadillac and Manistee, 39° Kalkaska, 36° Leota (Clare Co.), Stambaugh (U.P.), 33° Doe Lake, 32° Spincich Lake.    Consumers Energy has got just about everyone back on power.  Statewide, they had just 99 customers without power, inc. 30 in Kalamazoo Co. and only 3 each in Calhoun Co. and St. Joseph Co.  There are 31 without power in Muskegon Co. and that may not be storm related.

You see the ALBERTA CLIPPER swoops down from Canada bringing a Canadian sized wallop of wind and snow. It’s sometimes referred to as a Saskatchewan PAIN TRAIN!!!

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Bring on the clipper and plenty of SNOW!

I hope the clipper doesn’t ice up the roads. The family and I are suppose to head to uncle Pat’s to clean out her closet.

My wife and me will be heading off to South Dakota. We will be leaving later today spending the night in Ludington tonight and then taking the slow boat across the lake. This will be the first time we have been to the Black Hills area so it will be a new experience for us. As of now the weather looks to be mostly good. There will be the normal up and down pattern one gets in that area but now highs in the 80’s and 70’s for the most part and lows on the 60’s and 50’s and of course there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Anyway will drop a line now and then and let everone know how things are out there.

Took a trip there back in ’98(Aug)= BEAUTIFUL country!…my wife and boys enjoyed the tourist traps(Rushmore, Crazy Horse statue, gun fight in Hill City, etc); while I preferred the inner sanctum of Deer Lake (fishing), climbing/hiking Harney Peak ~ 7200ft, and getting lost on logging trails w/ Honda Passport rental car…temps. were upper 90′s by day/60′s by night–ENJOY!!
