(Picture of my mother at the Royal Wedding Party they had in Oak Ridge, Tennessee 4/29/2011.) My mother is celebrating birthday #95 today (7/12/14). I will be in Chicago this weekend enjoying the time with family. We have a nice luncheon planned at a local restaurant. My mother was born in Winnetka, IL. Her father was also born in Winnetka in the early 1880s. Her mother was born in Austria. My mother had the lead in the opera at New Trier High School (a school known for it’s actors – graduates include Charlton Heston, Rainn Wilson (from The Office), Rock Hudson, Adam Baldwin, Ann-Margret, and here’s a list of many more.) Despite the Lip Dub (wink), I’m still not famous enough to make the list. My mother had a scholarship for opera/music, but as with many women at the start of the turmoil of WWII, she instead went to work for the phone company. She is a wonderful piano player (keyboard now, they’re more portable than the Baby Grand we had when I was growing up) and singer. She was an entertainer for the USO during the war. She divides here time between Illinois in the summer and Tennessee (close to my sister) in the winter. She likes to “walk a mile and a day and read a book a week”. With Laura Velasquez has left for her new job at the Fox station in Denver and so the rest of the meteorologists will be working extra weekend shifts for awhile. I want to personally thank Terri DeBoer, who will be taking a couple of extra shifts this weekend so I can be celebrating in Chicago. I’ll put up a live radar thread, but will probably not update the blog for awhile as we spend time with the family.
