At my mother’s party

Louise 95th birthday   Picture of my mother, brother, sister and me at my mother’s 95th birthday party on Saturday.  Lots of rain here Saturday/Saturday night.  They cancelled Taste of Chicago because of the rain and ponding of water.   Some people paid $30 to $40 to park and were not too pleased.  The rain ended and we were dry for the lunch and trip to the park thereafter.  Great day.  Heavy traffic (stop and go thru most of Chicago) and road construction made it a fairly long trip.  Parts of Chicago had over 4″ of rain today.  The ramp from the Dan Ryan to the Eisenhower Expressway was flooded, as was the Ontario St. Connector.  Here’s rain reports from West Michigan and NE Illinois (4.52″ at Oak Forest and 4.75″ at Gibson City.

Bill, ever been to Margies candies??? They have two locations. The original one is the one you have to visit. It’s just a few steps off the Western Blue line stop.

  7. Brian(Grandville) says:

$30-$40 to park is a bit over the top. I have no plans to visit Chicago any time in the near, or distant future.

    1. fixxxer says:

Theres no reason to visit chicago.

      1. steven (Derby Lake) says:

There’s no reason for you fixxxer and your multiple alias to post anything on here.

        1. INDY says:

        2. fixxxer says:

Lol only i have one. Ask bill if you like.

    2. steven (Derby Lake) says:

That’s only in the areas close to the festival.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the city as long as you stay in the popular areas. I can go there and stay at my sister and brother inlaws for free, but barely spend $200 in 3 or 4 days and that’s doing something or seeing something every day.

Happy Brithday to your Mother! 95 years is a real landmark…but she probably doesn’t think so.
Anyway…2 inches even in the rain guage on the end of the dock on the east side of Myers Lake here Northeast of Rockford early this monring. We didn’t hear a thing but the beach washed out into the lake at the end of the sidewalk. Now I have to go get it back!
Drive safe on the way home today too.

Thanks for the update, Bill, and happy birthday, Mrs. Steffen.

We had a fair amount of rain last night up north but not much thunder or wind.

  15. Benard Lamfers says:

Yes – Yes – a very happy birthday to your mom. 95 years of life surrounded by a loving family, how glorious.

Bill this is a wonderful photo. We have so much that is bad and hard to take on the news, and in the midst of all that, we have your wonderful photo of family and love that burns bright down through the years.

  16. Chicago is actually a fun place to visit. I love going there. So much to do and see across the city. I know it can get expensive there if you go do lots, but that’s how it is on any vacation.

    1. Clara says:

I love Chicago. I go so often I have my own Ventra (CTA) card. I never drive into the city, so I never have to pay to park. Just a couple bucks per bus/El trip. Eating at Berghoff in the Loop is no more expensive than GR, and there are plenty of other reasonably-priced restaurants throughout the city. There’s so much to do there too! I’d live there if I could.

      1. I visit every so often. Used have relatives there so we go there every so often. It’s a lot of fun

      2. Brian(Grandville) says:

Maybe I just went to the wrong part of town back in April. We stayed near O’hare, but visited much of the town as well. I was not impressed with prices of ANYTHING. I paid almost double the price I pay here for everything. The restaurant at the hotel we stayed at had their lowest priced appetizer starting at $16, and a bottle of Budweiser was $8.50 each. RIDICULOUS!!!

        1. Wow that is a joke. Maybe you were in a upscale area or something maybe. Not sure if the O’Hare area is upscale or not though

        2. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

I worked for ADP which is out of Shaumburg IL ,about 5O min outside of O’ hare and you will pay much higher prices near the airport and especially in hotels where they already have a captive audience. I have been many places in Chicago and I to find it to be one of my favorite cities to visit. I grew up about 30 miles away from San Francisco and also worked in the city so I guess I’m ” used ” to seeing 30-40 $ for half day parking , although my company footed the bill otherwise I don’t drive to either place as city transit is the only way to fly. ( BART if in SF )

The best summer ever lives on and on! Keep the below normal temps rolling!

    1. Brian(Grandville) says:

G.R. is 3.5* below average for the month so far. This is before are little cool down this week. It’s gonna take a lot to recover to average for the month after that.

  18. Looks like a thundershower is going to come on shore near Paw Paw Lake and Covert

  19. on the grand says:

  20. DF (EGR) says:

    Happy bday Mrs. Steffen!

  21. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

So when I’m looking at the NWS radar site , for let’s say GRR , what is the difference between the standard version and the enhanced version ? ( can’t be just background )

  22. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Hah Bill on Facebook. I was talking with your wife and she hit a deer. Glad you’re all okay! And it also look so Ike some rain is south of 1-96 right now, so hopefully the NWS adds that to the forecast.

    1. Skot says:

Nathan you have blossomed into a great Weather guru. Awesome.

  23. Glad you and your wife are OK Bill!! Can’t have the #1 Meteorologist in Michigan injured! Haha

  24. Dan (Byron Center) says:
