grand haven fireworks    The Coast Guard Festival fireworks display lasted 31 minutes and 25 seconds and contained nearly 6,000 shells.  It was awesome.  No fires on Dewey Hill this year (unlike 2005).   We saw a dozen sky lanterns go up and did anyone else notice an object with red and occasionally blinking green lights that might have been one of those small unmanned helicopters for taking pictures?   The Grand Rapids high temperature Saturday was 3 degrees higher than the next warmest temperature on the max/min. temperature table.  I’ll make a guess that the GRR thermometer is reading high because we haven’t had any rain (1/10th inch in the last month) and the ground has dried out/baked out and just gets warmer.   This causes the air above the ground to be warmer  See if that’s the case again today and see if that difference goes away when we get a good rain.   Some hail fell in Oakland and Wayne Counties on Sat.

The % chance of rain on the GFS plot for Sun. night/Monday/Tuesday is 19%/42% and 50%.   On the NAM (car.) it’s 38%/48%/36%.  On the GFSX the % chance of rain for Mon./Tue. is 50%, 63%.  The European prints out 0.44″ of rain Mon. night, 0.12″ for Tues. and 0.01″ for Weds. (dry the rest of the week).   We could use some rain.

Go play in a lightning storm.

  3. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Warm and dry today… Not my style. Looks like we stay warm next week with a slight chance if rain, but nothing overly significant.

I just love the way MI says Happy Birthday, $154.00 For Lic. Plates, TN they were $22.00. Just goes to show you how much more we have to Pay because of the SNOW and all the damage it does to the roads and how much it cost’s to clear it from the roads. i’m sure it cost more for Car Insurance also.and all the medical bills from sore backs and so on from shoveling.I would like to know how much winter cost for an average family more than like the state of TN

    1. Brian(Grandville) says:

Not only that. I just bought a used vehicle with a plate on it, but was not able to use it. They made me buy a new plate, registration ect. I spent about $185 for that one.

      1. Rad (Jenison/Hudsonville) says:

Now you can watch it rust away from all the Salt they use on the roads.

      2. fixxxer says:

Thats becuase michigan is broke and they do everything they can to screw their “legal” citizens.

      3. bobcat says:

Well of course you need a new plate and registration. New car needs to be in your own name. That’s common sense… the price for it is nonsense!!

  5. I have 81 degrees here so far at this noon hour. I see there is one lone shower on Lake Michigan offshore Norton Shores falling apart as it moves towards the shoreline. Could really use the rain around here. Don’t sound like any rain west of 131 tomorrow and only a slight chance south of I-96 for Tuesday.

For some reason Intellicast is going bonkers with our rain and gives us a 90% chance of rain. Not sure what model that website goes off of but I wish there actually was a 90% chance of rain in the forecast but its looking more like 40%.

  6. Mike (Mattawan) says:

Well, I think im the only one saying this but I personally am happy that we are getting so many sunny days although I’m sure its hard on all the crops in the area. Wouldnt mind us getting rain at night and warm, sunny days.

  7. Travis (Oakland County) says:

No drought here. Got rain the past few days with pop up storms.

Sunny and 85 now. 86 in GR I see!

    1. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Yeah and 91 on the tennis court! Very warm again

  8. Dan says:

In Myrtle Beach now. It has been raining here. We have a stationary front situated right over us. The rain chances go down over the next couple of days and very warm temps in the forecast (90,92, 94) Enjoy your day all!

      1. Dan says:

Jerry, I just moved here. Start my new job tomorrow. This area is really cool! People are very friendly! Let’s hope it stays that way!
Nice warm weather most of time!

  9. fixxxer says:

Nice and warm out, right rj?

  10. John (Norton Shores) says:

Could really use a couple straight rainy days across the Great Lakes region as it’s too dry around here. I would be fine by that as long as it got sunny and warmed up after that again. It wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t get any rain anytime soon in West Michigan, that some parts of west Michigan begin to see some yellow on the drought monitor.

    1. fixxxer says:

Too dry my rear. Its rained plenty this year. A few warm days and were in a drought? Lol

      1. John (Norton Shores) says:

Fixxxer if you never have anything good to say then say it to your self or don’t say it at all, it’s been very dry fyi. The NWS was even concerned we were heading into a drought, calling them a liar eh? Bill has also made several blog post about how dry it has been, and a recent one about only having 1/10″ of rain in the past month, call that wet? Sometimes you really piss people off on this blog, correction most of the time.

Went to the coast guard festival myself yesterday, didn’t stay for the fireworks. Had to park 2 miles away and walk in, way too many people.

Here are some pics I took though.

    1. Sandy (Hudsonville) says:

      Nice photos! Thanks for sharing.

  12. PB says:

No offense to anyone from the USCG Festival, but I thought the July 4th fireworks were better.
