Tuesday PM – Chance of Shower/T-Shower South

August 5th, 2014 at 10:45 am by under Bill's Blog, Weather

10:50  pm – The last sprinkles are ending..     Some places are really hurting for rain and I don’t see much help for you.  The next good chance of rain will be with the front next Monday.  The weather should be very nice for the LPGA Golf Tournament out at Blythefield C.C.  Ticket prices are relatively reasonable – I hope they do well and raise a lot of $$ for local charity.  Check out:   College of DuPage Grand Rapids radar, a surface weather map and the visible satellite loop (daytime).  Some areas (Lowell to Woodland) had quite a soaking yesterday, but many other areas need rain and we have an extended stretch of dry weather coming up through the weekend.  Grand Rapids Ford Airport has only had 0.10″ of rain since July 15th!

Also:  A large wildfire  in Oregon, known as the Beaver Complex (comprised of the Gulch and Salt Creek fires) continues to rage. Over 1,500 fire personnel have been trying to combat the fire, started by lightning, which has grown to 36,723 acres since July 30, according to Inciweb reports.  The Eiler Wildfire in California has consumed 28,600 acres and is 20% contained.   Outside of the Pacific NW, this has been a remarkably quiet year for wildfires.  Out of the last 10 years thru Aug. 5th, 2014 ranks 2nd lowest in number of wildfires and lowest in number of acres burned.     Naples FL record rainfall yesterday of 6.73″.  Stockholm, Sweden reached 92 deg. on Monday – the warmest temp. there in 20 years.  Tornado near Las Vegas yesterday.  The high temp. in Las Vegas Monday was 84 – 20 degrees cooler than average. Lightning lights up Chicago Monday evening.   NASA video of meteor over TN3-D view of Hurricane IselleMajor expressway (highway 407) closed by floodwaters at Burlington, Ontario.   NASA data shows average global temperature for July was +0.051C warmer than average.  Link shows it was quite cool over much of the U.S., Antarctica, the Arctic and central Russia.   Note that the Arctic and Antarctic are included in the NASA IR data – but not in the media-hyped NCDC  “adjusted” temperatures.   Adelaide, Australia records their coldest August temperature In over 125 years.

Here’s GRR looping radar. Links: Grand Rapids radar, Northern Indiana radar, Chicago radar, Detroit radar and Milwaukee radar. Here’s regional radar, the College of DuPage Radar Map (pick any radar in the U.S.), College of DuPage Grand Rapids radar, the West Michigan Lightning Tracker, National Lightning Tracker, the local warning/advisory map and the National warning/watch/advisory map, and a surface weather map. You can checkout the late. st Grand Rapids NWS discussion, the Northern Indiana NWS discussion (includes the Michigan Counties that border Indiana), the discussion for Northern Lower Michigan, and Eastern Lower Michigan. Check out Storm Total Precipitation (until they reset it). Here’s the Spyglass Condos Weather Station the S. Haven GLERL station, the Muskegon GLERL station, the Grand Haven Steelheaders webcam and weather station, and the weather station at Holland State Park. Check out the Maranatha Webcam at Lake Michigan and links to webcams. Here’s the infrared satellite loop (night) and the visible satellite loop (daytime), Lake Michigan water temperatures (summer). Here’s recent storm reports from SW Michigan, Northern Michigan, NE Illinois, SE. Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and E. Michigan. Check out the wind and wave height at the South Mid-Lake Michigan Buoy (Apr. to Nov. only), the North Mid-Lake Michigan Buoy (Apr. to Nov. only), the buoy at Big Sable Point near Ludington and the weather station on the beach at St. Joseph. Here’s Michigan wind gusts from MesoWest, data from the MAWN agricultural weather stations and Weather Underground (data at the bottom from private weather stations). Check out the webcam at Krupp’s Resort in the U.P. Here’s the U.S. Low Temperature map. Here’s a live look at the Houghton Bridge. Here’s the Consumers Energy Power Outage Map. Here’s Closings.

  1. Rad (Jenison/Hudsonville) says:

    YEA!! we can comment again!!

  2. Nice 5 minute steady rain here in Byron Center. Enough to get the roads wet. Still raining

  3. Barb says:

Sunny & beautiful up north. Too bad we didn’t get any rain. I can tell the lake is receding since I can walk on the beach a little bit more without going into the dune grass.

  4. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Wow back to back 88 degree days for GR… not bad.

Had two more strong storms come through this morning.

Lake Huron very close to average water temps now.

    1. Cliff(Scotts) says:

All I can do is laugh at your ignorance bud!!! Troll on.

    2. fixxxer says:

You and rj crack me up.

    3. Rocky (Rockford) says:

We having one of the best years of below average temperatures in many a years! Keep the below normal temperatures rocking and rolling! Global warming must be causing all of these below normal temperatures! Right?

      1. fixxxer says:

I wouldnt call the past few days cold rj.

        1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Yes the last couple days were slightly above average, however for the year we way below average! Imagine that! I can hardly wait till WINTER arrives! Bring it!

        2. matt says:

Can’t hardly wait for winter. Why, so you can post more lies of your imagined snow trips? Good luck in school this year, you can tell your lies to the kids on playground.

      2. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Yes, 2014 has been a very warm year globally

        1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

          Wow! Get a life!

  5. Alice (Cedar Springs) says:

Weather.com has a 100% chance of rain at 6pm for Cedar Springs. I am going to go ahead and assume that actually means 0% chance….

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

I would say the chances are closer to 10%!

      1. Alice (Cedar Springs) says:

10% sounds better than 0%! We need rain. Sounds like today is the only chance until next Monday.

  6. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Today will be the start of a week of below normal temperatures! Imagine that! How is this possible?

    1. Alice (Cedar Springs) says:

Loving the temps this summer! Not loving the lack of rain the last couple weeks.

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Same here Alice, my grass it turning brown and we are getting severely shafted by storms they are just either to our North or East but always to our south. Thankfully temps have been very nice for my son’s endurance conditioning training for football this summer, for the whole team actually.

        1. Alice (Cedar Springs) says:

That is definitely something to be thankful for! I always worry about kids when it get too hot out.

        2. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

Agreed , I really would like some rain but storms seem to dislike this general area. Someone plz move the ” bubble ” already..!

    2. fixxxer says:

Will the shortbus be taking you to school this year rj?

      1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

I will be retiring from my full time job in a year or two! Then I can spend all year antagoniozing you! Who knew?

        1. matt says:

Sure you will. We all believe you are old enough to hold job. Go play with your Lincoln Logs.

    3. Tim (Spring Lake) says:

Funny….looking at the forecast, I see 2 days (Today and tomorrow) forecasted 1 and 2 degrees below normal. The next 4 days are at or ABOVE average by a little bit. Looks to me like a week of AVERAGE to slightly ABOVE average temps, but please, do not let facts get in the way of your daily mind numbing rant.

  7. PB says:

This blog sucks. All it’s become is douche bags like fixer and rocky and some wimp barry and his son’s breathing problems.

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Thnaks for that brilliant commentary about the weather! You have just added so much worth to this weather blog! Get a grip!

    2. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

PB I use to enjoy this blog very, very much and was a regular and got really involved but certain people have ruined it for the bunch of us, I agree with you.

      1. Mark (East Lansing) says:

I’m with you. The blog is about 80% worthless BS nowadays.

        1. arcturus says:

Agreed, its become a haven for trolls, a laughing stock for the world to see, and speaks poorly for Grand Rapids and W Michigan. A good blog always has moderated comments.

        2. Skot says:

Wow !! Must be true than. Someone put a padlock on fisssters laptop and all we be normal again.

      2. fixxxer says:

Oh swatz its not that bad. No worse than indys drunken posts. Its a “public” blog people. Deal with it. Bill doesnt moderate here.

      3. Tim (Spring Lake) says:

I completely agree Swatz. I enjoy seeing posts from you, Cort and others with their perspective on things weather related and beyond. To be honest, even Indy doesn’t bother me, but seeing some people post the same thing 10+ times per day, just to piss people off, makes the blog look ridiculous. They are proud of themselves, and think they are clever in their own little minds, not caring that 99% of the blogs thinks them to be fools. Pity, as this blog CAN be a great source of info. Too bad too many will never know, as most people who read it once now, never want to come back due to the actions of a few.

        1. Mark (East Lansing) says:

    3. fixxxer says:

Lol. Get used to it buddy.

      1. Barb says:

Why? Do you need attention that badly?

    4. arcturus says:

WOOD’s gen’l manager and president is Diane Kniowski. She can be contacted at diane.kniowski@woodtv.com. Anyone who is unhappy with the downhill direction of this forum should contact her and mention how the unmoderated behavior of the forum condones the type of comments which poorly reflects the station, and ultimately, its advertisers.

      1. PB says:

I should make myself clear, this is NOT Bill’s fault.

  8. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Golf is calling! Latter people! Get outside and enjoy the BEST SUMMER EVER!

    1. matt says:

The only golf you play is on the Wii. Stop being a mooch and get a job.

      1. Ned S. (East of Holland) says:

I’m sure you have proof of what Rocky does or doesn’t do, not! You’re such a coward, sitting behind a keyboard acting like a tough guy.

        1. matt says:

Thank you im doing my best.

  9. Mark (East Lansing) says:

    Lansing’s rain totals:

    May 4.24″
    June 6.40″
    July 4.86″
August 2.09″ Plus we got another nice storm with lots of rain about 6:00 this morning.

That puts us at +7.59″ since May 1st. I don’t remember it ever being this green at this time of year. Sorry, westsiders. If I could share the wealth, I would.

    1. SlimJim NW GR (1) says:

Here at my house I only got 0.05 of rain so far in August and there has not been much rain here at all going back to mid July (0.13″ since July 15th)
But surprising the grass around here is still rather green.

  10. SlimJim NW GR (1) says:

    Travis (Oakland County) says:

Yes, 2014 has been a very warm year globally

Here is a NOAA site that will give you some good information on temperature trends.

As you can see globally 2014 so far has been a warm year. Here in the Great Lakes area that has not been the case so far this year.

  11. Looks like cells are rapidly developing on radar. Hope to get a nice long downpour

  12. Nice cell in Central Ottawa County just West of Allendale. Not moving fast either so that will give people in Zeeland and the eastern part of Holland some good rain.

  13. Scott (Robinson twsp) says:

Whooo hooooo over an inch so far at the house. :)

  14. Skot says:

I am actually loving this summer. Perfect all around being outdoor campfire weather and fishing.

    1. fixxxer says:

Campfire weather is for the fall.

      1. Skot says:

        Pardon me…..BON fire then.

  15. Sandy (Hudsonville) says:

Raining with a little thunder here.

  16. Cell is building east. I may get some good rain!

  17. SS (Pwell Area) says:

    Heavy rain here….

  18. fixxxer says:

Looks as the showers are moving south of gr.

  19. Clara says:

Darn it, looks like the rain is going to stay to the S/SW of GRR. My rain barrels could really use a re-fill. And I just like it when it rains.

  20. Mark (East Lansing) says:

    Absolutely pouring again.

  21. Moderate rain in Byron Center. The downpour is just SW of downtown Byron Center. I am just happy to be getting raindrops!

  22. INDY says:

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa fixer and his brothers has killed off Bills blog !! I still come on here late at night and say hi to Bill when the time is right!! Enjoy!! INDYY!!!

    1. matt says:

      Go to rehab.

  23. John (Norton Shores) says:

Downright pouring very hard in downtown Muskegon right now! Haven’t seen rain like this since the middle of June!

  24. John (Norton Shores) says:

This rain is just sitting right on top of Muskegon right now, barely moving, I would estimate about 3/10″ of rain so far in Muskegon.

  25. on the Grand says:

And not a drop of water here, but I can see it north and west of me.

    1. Tim (Spring Lake) says:

Barely a mist here either. On the road about 1/2 hour ago my windshield looked like maybe a car in front of me had misted me a little with their sprayers, but that has been it.

  26. Moderate rain still here and sunny!

  27. Jack says:

    Currently ” HIGH” & Dry N.E. G.R…….. ;-) . Stay CUEDD

  28. GunLakeDeb says:

SOOOOOOOOOOO happy about this heavy rain we’re getting (even a few rumbles of thunder). We needed this, like so many others…..

  29. Rad (Jenison/Hudsonville) says:

    Nice gentle rain in my Hood, no wind to speak of, Just perfect :}

    1. Jack says:

No Rain Here ,,,Just a SUNNY AFTERNOON ….Spin, THE KINKS Mr. RAD ::: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIKsHh3BFPI. ENJOY!!! ;-)

    2. Sandy (Hudsonville) says:

I heard that some of the area didn’t get much. We got torrential rains, wind & lost our power for over 2hrs. My daughter lives 5 min from me & she hardly got anything.

  30. DarrenSVRstm ( Cedar S ) says:

I’m all about spreading the rain and usually it seems to even out , however for the last month I’ve hardly seen a drop. Happy to see some are getting the wet stuff …. :) but can someone plz send a storm cloud this way….plz..!

  31. Complete downpour here! Lots of pounding of water

  32. dano (Norton Shores) says:

Still, not a drop right on the lakeshore.

  33. 0.30″ of rain came out of the storm that just moved through

    1. Sorry I mean combined with the one from earlier. 0.05 inches from the first cell and 0.25″ with the most recent one

  34. Scott (robinson twsp) says:

stopped at 1.07 works for me, still puddles in the driveway when I got home and nice and sunny. :)

  35. Sandi says:

And NE GR stays in the donut hole – no rain, not even a drop – back to sprinkling.

  36. My final rain total is 0.30″ in Byron Center. Roads are still went and still big puddles on my road. Sun is out now

  37. Travis (Oakland County) says:

Tons more heavy rain tonight. Everything is so green

    1. Mark (East Lansing) says:

      Same here. Love it.

  38. Kevin (Marshall) says:

Very light steady rain just south of Marshall. Just enough to wet the roads.

  39. Mark (East Lansing) says:

David Price debut tonight. Let’s go Tigs!

    1. Jack says:

      Indeed……GO TIGERS!!, stay “DP”cueDDDD…. ;-)

  40. SlimJim NW GR (1) says:

Not much in the rain gauge here at my house. All I received was 0.05” so not much here in the way of rain, laBut it’s a very nice evening out with temps here standing at 78° after a high of 79°.
We have free tickets for the drive in in Muskegon so we are going over there tonight. Plan on seeing “Guardians of the Galaxy” along with Maleficent as we will (like old times) bring our own drinks and snacks it will be seeing two movies for the price on none.

  41. Sharkee says:

The drive in sounds like fun! Also keep in mind the meteor shower if skies are clear?

  42. Shower just popped up over me. That’s cell #3 of the day

    1. Jerry Hoag says:

Kyle lucky you!!!!!! Here at my house, NO RAIN AT ALL TODAY, LAST NIGHT OR YESTERDAY!!!!!! So now I have to wait til next week Monday/Tuesday. Grrrrrr!! Going to be doing the rain dance on Monday afternoon…..lol.

  43. Very ominous clouds overhead. Scary looking sky

    1. Jerry Hoag says:

      Get pictures Kyle….Please????

    2. Jerry Hoag says:

I can see the clouds from my house Kyle…very cool looking!!!!

  44. I just got done assisting someone to see if they were ok after I seen a car down in the woods on southbound 131 just south of the Kent County line. He said he was ok. If I had to guess it was due to hydro planing but cannot confirm. It amazed me no one stopped to help. Could have just happened before I got up to him I guess

    1. Carrie (Byron Center) says:

Very nice of you to stop and help!

  45. Jack says:

Once again HOPE The Sky’s GO CLEAR Soon, for Tonight’s & Tomorrow’ s 6 minute ISS Flyovers SEE HERE : Tue Aug 5, 10:48 PM 6 min 38° 12 above W 12 above NE

  46. And btw still raining here in Byron Center. Very hard too. Has been the past 45 mins or so

    1. John (Norton Shores) says:

?? I am not seeing anything on the radar? I must be blind lol. I am glad you are finally getting your rain, now can you share some with us? Lol.

      1. Haha I wish. I’ve gotten at least a half inch now today. I guess the storms like Byron Center today or something! Because they keep popping up overhead

        1. Surprised you don’t see it. Got an orange/ red core over me

        2. John (Norton Shores) says:

Lucky! no rain here today, although downtown Muskegon had quite the downpour this afternoon and got about 1/2″ of rain in that short period of time. It’s too crisp and dry around here, we almost need a system where the rain comes across the lake for us lakeshore communities to get any rain lol!

        3. John (Norton Shores) says:

I did see something on the radar towards Cutlerville, is that the cell you were getting?

        4. SW Kent says:

Kyle, I am in BC and we had about a 5 minute sprinkle tonight, that is all.

        5. Yep. It kept building over me. I am loving it. Got 1 nice rumble out of it too! And yes the lakeshore needs the rain next

        6. What part of BC are you in? Eastern, southern, northern, or western? I had a long duration downpour

  47. Well now the shower is dissipating. Ill go check my rain gauge

  48. My rain total for today and tonight is 0.40″
