In Wilmette

Steffen Louise with Marie and Artwork   Late night – I’m in Wilmette – figured out how to get WIFI off my iphone (at least until the battery is drained).  Stopped to buy peaches at the old Ross-Roy farm on Four Mile Rd. (hi to Nick, Ellen, Billy and Gunner)…then stopped at the American Legion Post on Wilson (the one with the tank out front) to buy some raffle tickets for the drawing next week.  Good cause, they help a lot of people in the community, kids – Boy Scouts, etc.   Then we stopped at the farm market at the Pullman exit and bought $65+ of goodies to take to Wilmette – good stuff.  We’ve stopped at Ed’s for decades.  Traffic was the usual heavy, and we had a couple of brief slowdowns.   We took mom to Saturday evening Mass, then fixed burgers and lots of Michigan vegetables…went for a nearly one mile walk in the park across from Bill Murray’s childhood home (he showed up for his grade school reunion this year) and we had strawberry-rhubarb pie baked this morning at the Dutch Market.  It’s neat to see that in the local independent grocery store – they have signs that say “Michigan apples” and “Michigan fresh peaches”.  We’re getting up to blueberry pancakes and blueberry syrup from S. Haven.  My brother’s coming over for breakfast and we might have time to go across the street to the park for some bocce.  That’s doable in our “old age”.  Well into our forties, we’d go hit fly balls and throw the football around like we were still teenagers.   I’ll try and check in tomorrow night, wherever we might land.

Picture here is my 95-year old mother with my daughter, Marie – with a picture that Marie drew in 2nd grade that my mother has kept on the refrigerator door for 25 years.  Presents that count don’t necessarily have to cost a lot of money.  Enjoy your Sunday.

Bill, what is your mother’s secret to long life? Thanks!

    1. Bill Steffen says:

She likes to walk and read books – We walked nearly a mile to and thru a nearby park Saturday evening.

That’s great, I hope I am able to be as active as your mother when I am her age. God Bless her!

Wow Bill, your mom looks incredibly strong and healthy for 95. I showed my wife the pic and asked here to guess the age, and she went with 80.

Oh look, the village idiot has decided to open his mouth on this thread as well. 8 nice posts followed by the clowns contribution. What a pathetic, lonely person you are Rocky. Seek help immediately.

Wow your issues run deeper than I thought!

        1. MichiganWon says:

Wow, did you come up with that all on your own? Rocky, you are probably the least liked person on this blog. Why do you bother day after day? You really are disturbed.

Did you color that map with the crayons you got at mcdonalds?

      1. Wait, McDonalds has crayons? Lol

    3. Mark (East Lansing) says:

And how does this have anything to do with Bill’s blog entry?

  9. Barb says:

Thanks, Bill, for your entries, highlighting your travels. Let us know what kind of weather you run into. Who cares if it’s hot or cold?

  10. Just saw the movie into the storm. What a good movie! I really enjoyed it. Being a storm chasing but like me it was perfect.

Can’t wait to further some of my weather knowledge over the next few years and become more advanced. I have gotten way better over the past few years. Some things you may not know about me is I even have a file cabinet in my room loaded with weather information and maps in every drawer that I personally drew of storm systems starting back when I was 7 years old up until today (of course I do more digital that hand drawing now). That’s how much I enjoy weather. I’d like to focus more in the area of tornadoes in the future and study them since they are still very complex.

    1. Mark (East Lansing) says:

Wow, you ARE a weather nerd. I can respect that. :-)

Thats great Michigan apples and peaches are being sold in another state. I wonder if I know the farmer who grew them. :) I know quite a few old farmers. They are suppose to be retired but you can’t tell by watching them work.

  12. Cliff(Scotts) says:

I went and seen into the storm last night, all I can say is don’t waste your money.

    1. Sure some parts of the movie were cheesy and not realistic, but they are obviously not going to have real tornadoes in this movie. In my opinion, they did a good job at making the tornadoes look real the best they could, it takes a lot to do what they did.

On the movie topic I saw Defenders of the Galaxy today and I would say check it out if you enjoy the Marvel movie collection . I didn’t enjoy it as much as some for example Avengers but overall a solid 6.5 out of 10. I should also mention I watched it n a an IMAX 3d setting , so that always makes a better experience.

Looks like heavy rain is possible for those in extreme southern Michigan next week around the 20th – 21st timeframe according to the hazards outlook day 3-7.
