“The Invasion” a decent remake, a decent rental

Its almost been a year since “The Invasion” hit theaters (August 2007), and its one of those movies I wanted to see, but just kept putting off… for one thing, it didn’t do so well at the box office (only making $15 million with a budget of $80 million)… and it didn’t get a lot of buzz after it hit theaters… but it was also overshadowed the weekend it opened against “Superbad” and by four other movies still playing and winning at the box office “Spider-Man 3″, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”, “Transformers”, and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”… needless to say, I finally saw it and… it was a pretty good rental.

Review: “The Happening”: freaky good

“The Happening”: freaky good

After two sub-par movies, M.Night Shyamalan returns with a solid suspense movie that plays right into our modern day cultural concerns about terrorism and government conspiracies !!!   “The Happening” doesn’t play around… its bold and right in your face with the opening scene… its graphic and violent and earns its “R” rating.

 “The Happening”

MY TAKE (no spoilers):  Unlike some movies of this genre where the director takes time to develop the main characters or “the evil” … “The Happening” wastes no time getting right to the event itself… the “good guys” are then brought in and their quest to figure out what is going on and why begins.

Review: Indiana Jones 4: a shocking disappointment

Indiana Jones 4: a shocking disappointment

Yes, I hate to say it, but “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” was a sucker punch to the stomach of *this* eager fan of the franchise.     I am a huge fan of “Indiana Jones”… its 2nd only to “Star Wars” as a favorite franchise… these are the movies that got me excited about going to the theater when I was a kid… but this leaves a sour taste in my movie-going stomach.

Don’t get me wrong… all the elements were there: the typical edge of your seat action, good versus evil, gags, fighting, heroes in peril, one liners, a little romance… it was a fun adventure… the whole franchise is…

((… and I was disappointed by the way they explain what the crystal skull was.. and they way they explained it… why? why? why? did they have to do it that way? it unravels all the little flaws I had accepted earlier in the movie… at one point in the end sequence I wasn’t sure if I was watching Indiana Jones or “A.I.” ))
