Its a sad day for Hollywood…. Paul Newman has passed away at age 83.

I didn’t know until I hopped on the internet today… that legendary actor Paul Newman had died Friday after a long battle with cancer at his farmhouse near Westport, Connecticut.

Paul NewmanIf you’re older than 30, you probably know who Paul Newman is, if you’re under 30, than you may only know Paul Newman from a bottle of “Newman’s Own” salad dressing, and that’s really too bad, because the guy won an Academy Award for Best Actor in “The Color of Money” (1986), was nominated for 9 other Academy Awards, and in a career that stretches more than 40 years – he has more than 80 acting credits.

ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATIONS:

Nominated: Best Supporting Actor in “Road to Perdition” (2002)

Nominated: Best Actor in “Nobody’s Fool” (1994)

WON for Best Actor in “The Color of Money” (1986)

Nominated: Best Actor in “The Verdict” (1982)

RECENT MOVIE WORK:

His most recent credits are voicework, but you can rent his most recent on-camera roles in made for tv movies “Empire Falls” (2005) and “Our Town” (2003).  His last big screen movie before that is 2002’s “Road to Perdition” with Tom Hanks which had some scenes shot in Michigan.

LAFF’S FAVORITE PAUL NEWMAN MOVIES:
Paul Newman was an A-List star when I was growing up, but it wasn’t until I was a little older, did I really appreciate his performances… I have to admit, I haven’t see even half of his movies, but I’d like to offer a meager list of my favorite Paul Newman movies:

“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (1969)

“The Color of Money” (1986)

“The Sting” (1973)

“Torn Curtain” (1966)
